Yes --- I wouldnt' exactly call it "disloyalty" to hosts, but it behooves us to realize that Airbnb is not interested in helping existing hosts do well in their businesses, so much as simply expanding Airbnb and having more and more and more hosts. Which is not good for existing hosts, to have so many hosts in their city, their neighborhood, their very block. So there is in many places now an oversaturation of listings and a surplus of hosts.
I don't think we can realistically expect a large corporation to NOT do what all corporations seem to want to do -- which is to grow --- but I wish "growth" was not such a mantra in the corporate world. As we all begin to see, there is only a finite amount of guests who need accomodations. Finitude is not a concept that corporations seem to comprehend. Perhaps the diameter of the planet Earth is similarly not comprehended. Our Earth does not grow magically larger and larger, containing more and more and more natural resources, to match corporate wishes to grow and grow and grow.
I don't actually understand economics or corporate economics/finance very well, so I am probably naive, but in my view of things, our society focuses too much on growth. Growth and endless growth and nothing but growth is not a sustainable concept, nor is it a realistic concept in that sense. Overpopulation is real and the fact that natural resources are limited is real, and the fantasy of growth, growth growth for corporations and businesses, doesn't stack up against this reality. I dont' see a problem with a company just keeping the same amount of business year to year and being content with that.

It's Christmas time! I just came home to a package, and to my surprise it's a nice Airbnb journal/booklet. It came with an actual Hallmark card, a very pretty blank card with a handwritten note "Thanks for being so generous with your time and contributions to the Community Center. We really appreciate all you do to keep Airbnb great". AWWWWW so sweet

So they are monitoring who contributes on the Community Center? Yikes! Though I can see those who contribute being happy that their efforts are appreciated, some hosts may feel differently -- it could be a reason that some may want to avoid contributing!

Of course CC (Community Center) participation is being monitored! How else would we be able to 'move up' in Levels? THere must have been a cut-off date for determining who would receive the thank you card and notebook; I haven't participated in the CC in quite a while and still received one. I was wondering if it weren't some kind of enticement to get hosts to use the CC.

I think the Levels BS thing is automatic, depending on the number of posts you make. I think almost all forum programs have this feature.

I'm way too late for that particular guest, but it's a recurrent questin. I do a check as Deborah suggests and then I explain the breakdown like city taxes, cleaning fee: I use that not for the real amount of cleaning but for the person who has to come twice to hand over keys and take them back and for the laundry service. That prevents that they leave a mess because cleaning is paid. For the airbnb fees I explain that airbnb offers the impressive worldwide website in many languages, publicity free, that they take the payments in trust and hand them over to the host only if the apartment exists as promised, that they offer a credit card payment service for private hosts that could never offer it otherwise, that international payments by bank transfer are very expensive and they offer help around the clock to both sides and some insurance. They take fees from both sides and considering the service, I think the fees are low. Renting before airbnb, I had to add up to 40% for an agency to my price and over 50 for international bank transfers. Airbnb allows me to rent at lower prices.
Maybe not the full explanation every time but I would in that case. It sounded like the technique "I don't understand how this works, you are deliberately confusing me, can't you just fulfill the promise like I understand it? Anyway it's your fault that I don't understand it otherwise " - that's like some men who would not understand how to wipe a table clean or boil an egg if there is a women around. "Silly, it's easy, soldiers and sailors don't starve either. Boil it or eat it raw, both are fine and healthy. "

Hello, this is my first post on this new forum, and I hope its not too inappropriately placed, as I havent quite grasped the system in here yet..
I am having troubles with my listing and am getting quite frustrated about it. AirBnb keeps showing an old version of my listing no matter what I do. Funny thing is that when I go to update it, I can see the new appropriate version, but it just wouldnt show in the public profile. I have contacted the AirBnb customer service about that and they adviced me to do the update in Google chrome, as that is the favoured browser, so I did and it seemed to have worked BUT when I came to my profile after a month or so, it shows the wrong version again. I have no idea what to do now..
Any help will be greatly appriciated. Thank you

Hi Clara one thing that I would suggest that has worked for me to use Google Chrome but clear out your cache if you are having problems with changes being saved . I don't know why this should be a problem when shouldn't have to do this but recently I have had this problem numerous times with many things on the Airbnb site for instance I'm unable to send messages to guests or am unable to edit my listing or I block dates on the calendar and I don't get saved and in each case the solution has been to clear out the cache on Google Chrome.?
To do this close all tabs on your browser click on the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner check click on settings advanced settings then clear browsing history and clear browsing history from the beginning of time .
See if that works.

I had such problems already that a text seems to change when you change it and an instant or a minute later the old version is back. My house rules have that bug permanently since a few months. They take only one version and revert it back. Even when CS tried to change them, they reverted back. Same bug on three browsers and several computers; BUT they work normally on the app. Since then, I first try the app when that happens. There are a few things, where the app on apple does not work but the browser does.

Thank you Deborah and Helga, the issue has miraculously resolved itself in the meantime, but should it happen again (as I am afraid) I will have options.. Thanks a lot! Have a nice day! Klara.

Start chatting right here!
Rebecca asked me to set up "one place where we can all gather and talk", so that is what I am doing with this board. Once people start coming on over to this forum, you are free to chat here, if you want. I hope this isn't confusing because we also have separate boards for New Hosts Forum, Anecdotes and Stories of Hosting, and AIrbnb Products and Updates. But just in case people really want ONE clear place to go, I've set this space up and highlighted it with a colorful border, so let's see if that helps. And by the way if you like, you can add to your unique style on this board by using any font you like -- (though others will only be able to see a certain font if they have it installed on their computer) see this post about how to use other fonts on these forums:www.globalhosting.freeforums.net/thread/1212/fun-formatting-options-creative-posts
