Do you put flowers in guest room, or chocolates on their pillow? Pros and cons of gifts to guests(This is a post which will be cross-posted on the new Airbnb groups when they roll out in November) I was wondering whether you give any type of "gift" to your guests, such as putting fresh cut flowers in their room, setting choclates on their pillow, leaving a bottle of nice wine for them in the kitchen. I have read about some hosts doing things like this, but I am also concerned about the possibility of leading guests to expect to get presents. For instance, if I put flowers in one guests' room, and they write about that in their review, then if another guest reads that a previous guest got flowers, and they don't get flowers, they may feel slighted, or rate me down because they didn't get "full service." Do others have views on or experience with giving "presents" to guests?

We have given the odd bottle of wine, usually to long term stayers or to Honeymooners. It's been mentioned in reviews, but no one has demanded a bottle "cause I read you gave xxxx a bottle."

I have sometimes put flowers in the guest rooms, and also didn't get that written about in a review , so I guess I'm safe from pressure to give gifts!

I always put flowers in a guests room, no-one has ever commented though.

I always enjoy making simple displays out of things I find in the nature. Just last week I made a display using,a branch, pine cones, different coloured leaves, wallnuts, apples, acorns and a gingerbread yankee candle. The guest noticed it immediately and even put it in her review. "......warm muffins and a chimney fire ready for our arrival, a lovely autumn decoration in the cosy room........"
