I just posted this on New Hosts FOrum and will post it here too
Airbnb invites Community Launch Pad Hosts to help with new Airbnb groups
So....like a lot of you I had not known/heard much about what are Airbnb's plans for the new groups it will be setting up in November (about one month off ), and all that I had heard was heardindirectly. Now I have heard a bit more, directly from Airbnb staff working on the new groups...but....I can't share much because it's confidential at this point! Frustrating for you all I'm sure who are eager to know what is going to be unrolled, but I will share what I can when I get the green light!
I have been invited by Airbnb , along with a few others, to be part of a small host leadership group called the 'Community Launch Pad Hosts' , who are being asked to give input and feedback and help in some ways with Airbnb's setup of the new groups. Airbnb has sought/is seeking those who have demonstrated guidance and leadership on Groups, and represent values aligned with Airbnb values. I definitely am encouraging Airbnb to have Andrew fully involved with this endeavor too. And you can be sure I have passed on the names of several of you regular New Hosts Forum members also to Airbnb as hosts they should also consider as also having valuable contributions to this project!
Actually, I do believe, that many of the values we have encouraged on New Hosts Forum, are actually quite in keeping with Airbnb values. We've sought to be welcoming, respectful to new comers and those with newbie questions, to be generous in helping, to give thoughtful advice, to give strong support to new hosts to develop skills on communication, having good boundaries, good listing descriptions, and to allow this to be a place where people can feel free to be themselves, express themselves uniquely with the anecdotes, stories and humor that some of you do so well and write so well. We value the quirky and the offbeat contributions and the witty one-liners. So it's music to my ears to hear that Airbnb sees these values and supports these and finds them aligned also with its purpose.
So...it's been a lot of community building...first I worked with Glenn and Andrew and all you wonderful and wise, and some of you incredibly creative and funny!) other regular forum participants in creating the culture of New Hosts Forum and keeping things running well here . THen, as it looked like New Hosts Forum would be vanishing, with all other groups, and I (as a member of Peter Kwan's Home Sharers group too, which started in the SF Bay Area) worked with some of you to set up the offsite setting for Home Sharers and also as a way to help preserve the global host community and the New Host Forum community, in the new "GlobalHosting Forum.' Now, I have yet a third community building project to be involved in, which is to help Airbnb in its setup and planning of its new Community Groups! So there is quite a lot of community activity here to be working on just about now!
There is some info, and actually quite a bit of info though it isn't very specific, on this FAQ that I was told I could share:
www.airbnb.com/help/article/1153/changes-to-groups-faq
Anyhow, I look forward to being able to share more with you when I have the green light! Stay tuned...
By the way, here is the thread where we are discussing this new forum as well as the new AIrbnb groups...
