Late, late, late...

I live more than 30 km far away from the home i rent.I had a couple of guest, last week; his check-in would be between 14,30 and 15,30Some days before, they wrote to me, that they would be near the city the night before, and they can have a check-in early noon.I wrote to them, that i would waiting for them, starting form 11 a.m. until 15,30 , time in that i must return at work. They say that' s ok.But i was waiting for them, at home.At 12 they wrote to me, that they would be late , between 16 and 16,30.So i go back to my home, 30 km far away, and organize myself , asking one hour permission at work, to be back to the renting home at 16.I go back to the renting home ( 2°trip... and 1 hour no pay work).I will be waiting for them. until 16,45Nobody was there.I let the keys to a shop near the home, in according to a friend, that would be showing the home and give the keys. Then, i send a sms writing exactly where they could meet keys and friend. " we will be at home at 18,00" the guest respond to me.At 19,40, the guest call me, sayng that would be waiting for me at the home. The problem is that the shop where i let the keys close at 19,30.So i have to go to make a check-in : the 3° time in the day!!!!!That drives me crazy.
i remain quiete, and smiling, but inside of me, i am very.... grrrrrrrr!!!!And you: what would you do in that case?

I"m sorry that you wasted so much time waiting and planning for guests who did not respect your time!
In this case it sounds like the guests were not delayed by a late plane flight or anything out of their control, since they were already near the city the previous night. So they were just not considerate of your time, in a pretty egregious way (over 7 hours later than they had first said..).
THis is a good example of why it is not a good idea for hosts to go out of our way to show up for guests at any given time. You just can never know if a guest will actually be there at the time they say they will. Sometimes the delay is not their fault -- for instance a plane fight is delayed -- but even when that is the case, very often guests can still send you a message and update you, which is what most of mine do if they will be late, so that I am not waiting for them, all for nothing.
For this reason, I recommend that you set a check in time that works for you, when you will already be home. Perhaps do this in combination with using a lockbox, so that the guests can let themselves in if they want to come at a different time when you aren't there, or have a place where you can leave or hide keys for them. Some hosts in large buildings in big cities might have a nearby deli or corner store where they know the shopkeeper, where they can leave keys with the shopkeeper for guests to pick up. Consider options like these.
WHen guests are so inconsiderate of your time, it is good to write something about that on their review, something factual, such as, "Guests_____ requested an early check in of 12, and I left work to accomodate them, but they did not show up until 19:30, inconveniencing me. "
