Karl shared Oct 8 2015:
How far ahead are you getting bookings?
One guy just ask me about August 2018. And my friend got IB for New Year night 2017, and of course, she didnt rise her price yet so someone got her condo twice cheaper
Zacharias:
She could always cancel their booking but I wasn't aware airbnb would allow a booking 3 years out. Most hotels dont even allow that far out.
Karl:
She accept her lost, and I will do the same in the situation ( but I just updated my prices up to Oct 2018) . It is totally host fault and guest shouldnt have problems.
Christina:
August 2016 is my most far away booking
Karl:
Not bad ))
Deanna: (deannafrommass)
Wow I don't book past three months!
Raymond & Elaine: (elaine)
Do people really plan three years ahead ?
Karl
not me))) But what I know for sure for my market - year ahead is totally normal. If you want to book good property on a beach, you need to book ahead. People who going to Jamaica every year book their next vacation just right after they return back home
Cynthia:
Maybe they made a reservation just to get your address? I'd a little sketched out by that. There is an option in the calendar to limit how far in advance someone can book.
Karl
If they cancel they will pay Airbnb fees anyway. What they going to do with address one of my rental property? And thank you, I will look for the option to limit my calendar to 18 month ahead
Ed & Hugh
I limit bookings to 6 months out.
Karl:
For me not an option, I need it for 18 month, but thank you I didn't know the option
nathalie:
It is strange because i can update my calendar 1 year ahead. But, some times ago, i saw a parameter which impeach to book so far (3 months or 6 months max). I have 1 reservation 1 year ahead. She wanted to book 9 months ahead but was so worried to miss it that she did it.
Christina
I would like an option for 9 months. I do get guests who plan ahead but usually not more than 1 year.
nathalie
I think the read the cancellation policy and secure plans. It is a good calculation because even if they loose the airbnb fees, they have a nice price.
Karl
yes, get nice property on a beach for New Year vacation for cheep - worth for risk to lose the fee
Keturah
Hmm I have always wanted to be at Time Square overlooking the ball drop for New Years. Maybe I can use airbnb for that
Rose
I have one in Feb 2016.
But this topic makes me want to double check my calendar to see the spot on how far out someone can book. I don't remember this...

On your listing you can select how far in advance you will accept bookings. Mine is 6 month.s Who knows what the future might bring? I might fall in love with a billionaire and run off to his private island!
Karl
well im already on the island, no escape for me
Donna
There's a place in your dashboard where you can indicate how far in advance you are willing to take a reservation. I think I have it set at 6 months.
Karl
Could you please give the link for stupid people? I didn't see it
Clare
Go to "your listing" and when you see your calendar select "settings". The drop down menu will give you the option of how far in advance (distant settings) you want to accept reservations.
Karl
oh, ok, I didn't think I need to go to each listing separately
Now I see why I didn't use it, its give you only 3 month, 6 month and 1 year, but I need 18 month. So not on option for me
Clare
BTW, you're not stupid...we all have to find our way around!
Karl
Yes, its good we can learn from each other

3 years in advance would scare me. I might be gone by then, from the apartment, town, country or earth. I had a guest once who came for a festival in early Summer and wanted to return. He had booked well in advance for three, they were four, no girlfriend any more but four guys, the booking changed thrice within a few months, and there he wanted to book a year in advance. I did not yet know prices for next year or if I would move away or stay. He pestered me all through autumn to Christmas - I accepted the stay in November, I told him "last years prices" just to spend a quiet Christmas and we fixed the number of persons in February, in May and just before arrival end of June ;-)
