There is a housing shortage in Lake Tahoe for workers in that area. There are also many vacation rentals whose owners are not interested in renting to long term tenants. What should be done? The city is asking owners what would encourage them to rent to long term tenants. www.sacbee.com/news/business/real-estate-news/article167792712.htmlI dont' think it makes any sense to pressure vacation rental owners to rent to long term tenants instead. The way long term rentals are trending in the state, an unwary property owner is in danger of inadvertently entering into a life long contract with a tenant, which they can never escape from. Sure, they'll rent to a long term tenant instead, if (1) the long term tenant will pay 3 times the going rate for long term rentals, eg the equivalent of what the owner can get from a vacation rental. (2) the owner will be given the right to evict at any time without cause, with 14 to 30 days' notice, and if the tenant doesn't leave on the date of termination of the rental contract, the tenant shall be guilty of the crime of trespassing and the owner will be given the right to physically remove (w/ help of police) lock them out of the property, and solve the squatting problem easily without police, courts, attorneys or any other nonsense. Just a simple lock out and/or physical removal. Sound simple? If not then no dice.
