Early on, many of us thought that Piedmont would NOT allow short term rentals, because its planning commission members were nearly all opposed to the idea. But City Council members were more tolerant and reasonable and so STRs are now to be allowed in this city, with permits:

That permit fee is rather pricey. A
Also, allowing hosts to only do STRs for 1/6 of the year is rather nasty and doesn't allow hosts to earn a decent reasonable income from hosting. Again I say, in what other business does the government tell you that you cannot do business full time, but can only do business for 1/6 of the year?

Hosted and nonhosted (eg, non hosted means when the host is not present while guest is there) short-term rentals are allowed, but there are several important restrictions on the operation of short-term rentals. Multifamily dwelling units and accessory dwelling units may not be used for short-term rentals. A unit must be rented for at least 2 consecutive nights, no more than 60 days in a calendar year and may not be rented for events, parties or gatherings.
Application forms and information regarding the requirements and process for obtaining a short-term rental permit are available at City Hall and through the city’s website at www.ci.piedmont.ca.us/short-term-rental-permit-required. The application fee is $300. Anyone with questions should contact Planning Director Kevin Jackson at 510-420-3039 or kjackson@piedmont.ca.gov.
