How would you like to have to compete with other residents in a lottery in order to be able to be an Airbnb host? That's what the California city of Pacific Grove is planning to do.
Which of Pacific Grove’s many short-term rental owners will be able to stay in business is now a virtual crap shoot.
The Pacific Grove City Council passed an ordinance 4-1 Wednesday that amends the city’s short-term rental law to include a lottery system, which would get the number of STRs down from 290 to 250 and make it so that only 15 percent of housing per block is dedicated to such rentals.
