Instant Book and Search Results --So I wanted to show you all what I'm getting when I do a search for listings in a city. I searched for listings in Eureka, CA and also Los Angeles CA ( a smaller and a larger city) and got the page shown below. Instant Book listings only are shown as per the default setting, but the improvement is that there is now a popup box to alert the guest doing the search that this is on, and to tell them they can see more listings if they turn this filter off. Then I did a search for a city which has far fewer listings (Kysucke Nove Mesto, Slovakia) and got the result that instant book filter was NOT turned on for the results. SInce that city has so few listings (only 2 pages of them) the Instant Book filter is NOT turned on automatically and all listings are shown. How does this compare with what you all are seeing when you do a search?

Aloha Deborah,
I opened Google incognito since it is somehow impossible for me to log out of airbnb.
Every search I did (4), large and small cities and towns the instant book feature was turned off requiring one to hit the drop down box to apply the filter.
Of course, and as projected, the Home Page is the "Whole Experience" gig, which HomeAway has now duplicated, and one has to hit a filter for "homes" on the airbnb site.

Rhonda did you do any searches for dates in June? What I found was that the filter was turned ON for searches for dates coming soon, but was turned OFF for dates further off in the future.

Aloha Deborah,
I just did a search with no dates entered.
I just entered a search with June dates, IB filter was turned off as a pop-up showed to turn it on and see what listings are IB.

When I checked on a Mac, browser not normally used, I got a pop-up to check IB to get inly IB listings (forgot the wording) That means IB is per default off but encouraged in paris, big town, but in Europe like Rhonda's small town exemple.
I'm in holiday for 6 nights, first in a very long time, no work, no family. As ). Ivhtsis too short to clean the whole apartment and maybe not rent it (especially removing bird cages and climbing trees), I put a listing up for the same space I use for the shared room guests. Differences are: no host, they have a small studio with garden to themselves, breakfast not provided. Or at least they have to buy tgeir own bread or eat crackers, as the rest is there. Not mentioned inthe listing, but they rarely see the breakfast option anyway. And contrary to the shared room, it's not IB. It has one glorious review. So I started out with 50 against the 43 of shared room bed. 4 days minimum. No bites. I went down to 45 and 3 days and finally to 43, the same price. Whilst I have to block the shared room listing to have a free night, I got a booking for only 3 nights of the 6 only the evening before. No cleaning fee, which is unusual for a full place. Obviously the IB makes a big difference. Still, even in Paris with all the competition you get bookings without.
