They did an undercover investigation and posed as guests, renting an apartment from one of the commercial hosts. In this way they discovered how the professional host was able to rent out apartments even in buildings whose policies stated very clearly that Airbnb was not allowed in their building. They gave instructions to the guests to state that they were residents. Or they entered the building through the garage.
Based on the NBC investigation, Airbnb removed one commercial host from its platform.
