Aloha Deborah, et al;
I've been watching for the latest Hawaii fiasco update.
Last year Hawaii vetoed Airbnb's offer to collect from guests and send directly to state to the tune of 5 mil, and save us hosts 10 feet of monthly paperwork, accounting, and unclear laws.
This year's Airbnb quote came in at a potential $100 mil direct deposit.
End result, "They're working on it.
Ever so glad State of Hawaii is no longer in charge of deposits into my check book; 3 years since immediate resignation, and never looked back.
With much aloha to all, Happy hosting continues with Rhonda.......even gots me a gardener.....YeeHaw!!!

Ha-ha Deborah,
That was not an update.
We all still remain clueless of any changes or ideas they want to work on.
I did see you had mentioned months ago that Kauai wanted to ban STRs.
I never seen any update or news on that either.
Apparently like LA, don't want or care for the $$, but cutbacks are tripling everyday in their attempt to 'balance' a budget.
The most LOL part, is that the State does not recognize how many listings hosts are not claiming the income appropriately, not registered, and so on, and the end result is ultimately EVERY listing would be collecting the tax and sending it to the State directly.
The Transient tax part is 9.25%. IF a guest cancels, they would not owe that tax Airbnb collected.
I don't believe this would be automatically refunded to the cancelling guest, and I'm guessing only 1% of the population would even considering having it refunded to them.
There's so much need and potential for much needed revenue for State of Hawaii, and they just keep it all stuck in politics (extremely strong hotel union), instead of providing a Bank Account # for the automatic deposits.
So sad on so many levels.
Airbnb did not keep me informed of the outcome and what the state 'is working on' (which I can only assume would be for 2018, only requesting phone calls and to email to senators, which I did last year to no avail.
My Bad, I should have made note of the House Bills change of wording that were being considered this year that didn't pass.
Last year I never could find the transcripts of the veto on any website.
If you hear anything, I'd love to have you keep us posted.
I hope you are all well and enjoying a lovely Spring and healthful life.
As always, With much aloha, Rhonda
