Now it's not the city of San Francisco cracking down, it's Airbnb cracking down. www.cnet.com/news/airbnb-yanks-923-listings-in-san-francisco-one-host-one-home/I'm very surprised that the large majority of the listings pulled, 580 out of 923 or 62% were shared rooms!! I would not have thought someone would be putting up a listing for a shared room in a place that they themselves didn't live -- or maybe most of those came under the title of "not offering the best possible experience"?

In Paris there are many listings, where people install a hostel in a flat. 4 bunk beds = sleeps 8 in a normal apartment room. Several such rooms and one toilet. You share your room with 7 random strangers and the bathroom with 17 or 20. Maybe that qualifies as "not the best experience ". It could be a security nightmare too, if one of them is crazy or if there is a fire. If they pull those listings, it's a good idea. Worldwide and before "20 dead in an illegal airbnb hostel" appears somewhere, would be even a better idea. To me, if the host does not live there, and he rents rooms, it's a hotel and it needs to be within the local regulations for a hotel.

Yes....I was thinking that too about the hostel type settings. In San Francisco there have been some "hacker hostels" set up which have 1-2 bunk beds in each room, so 2-4 people per room. There was one featured on the news -- it was doing only long term rentals, and the woman who was renting there seemed quite content with it. But Airbnb may not want these on its site -- Here's one such Hacker Hostel I found in Palo Alto -- which is closer to the center of Silicon Valley. www.airbnb.com/rooms/8309589And here's one in Mountain View-- they say this has "6 person bedrooms" www.airbnb.com/rooms/133974In Santa Clara: www.airbnb.com/rooms/583680

Looks like the hostel I had in mind. I can't add a photo on the phone, but the one close se to me offers rooms with Fouf places visible on the pictures, can't say, if that's a picture of all the places per room or if there are more beds behind the photographer. 26 per night- my price is 42 with breakfast, one person in the room and bathroom and kitchen are theirs for the night. Maybe that listing should pop up, when someone wants to hive me 3 stars. (There is a discussion on the new teview flow in the cc) Scrolling down on the app to find the listings, I got a half screen high warning after 3 listings, that the IB filter is on and if I want to see the others, I have to click here. Rather big, impossible not to see it and lisible for half blind people.
