I'm very close to the NY market, so I'm following the news very closely. This weekend I've had two bookings from guests that had booked in NYC and have been cancelled. In the short term it gives me a small boost in bookings, but it's terrible in the long term. The news of Airbnb/non-advertising bill being signed is all over the place, and that isn't any good for municipalities where the STR is on the agenda, but not yet a priority. So we're in a wait and see mode over at my house.
I decided to do a bit of a look on Airbnb for places in Manhattan, to see if the places that I bookmarked last week are still live, or if they've been taken down.
I came across this place, which appears to be brand new, as I am always hyper alert for images with text (hello Superhost axed for no reason thread).
So check this out: www.airbnb.com/rooms/15637437
RIght away the flags go up because of the invitation to book offline. I'm scrolling through the images and see a picture of nice tile job, and I'm about to pin it on my "bathroom inspiration board" when I figure - well, it's a pretty specific look, so I will reverse image search to see if this is really an apartment, or images from a real estate staging. This is what I found: www.booking.com/hotel/es/apartment-santiago-sevilla.es-ar.html
So the place being offered in New York is also being offered in Seville. How handy for the time traveller.
An honest host (like maybe, me?) who might want to superimpose text on a photo now has to be caught by the same filter that will find a host like the Seville/New York one. Is there actually a filter though? Or is it flagged by virtue of viewers reporting the listing?
I don't actually have text on any of my images, but it's lousy that you can't add text, even if it's a legitimate reason.
