There are so many anti-Airbnb groups now, that I wanted to create a post to list them.
First, there is www.airbnbhell.com, a website oriented to having people share their "Airbnb hell" stories.
Then there is www.insideairbnb.com, founded by Murray Cox. The website scrapes data from the Airbnb site (which I thought was prohibited by AIrbnb TOS...) and presents data on Airbnb rentals in many large cities accross the USA. The site invades privacy of hosts as well, and for every single host in the city, the site lists that hosts' total monthly income, number of listings, number of reviews, their occupancy rate and more. It also lists the "top hosts" in a given city, meaning the hosts with the most listings in each city (the "top host" could have 156 listings, or could have just 4-5 listings). THen, without regard to the facts about what the laws are in any given city, the website states this about "top hosts" in every city:
"Hosts with multiple listings are more likely to be running a business, are unlikely to be living in the property, and in violation of most short term rental laws designed to protect residential housing."
The data provided by Inside Airbnb is used by foes of Airbnb. Cox eagerly works with Airbnb foes and it's clear that his site is aimed at supporting them.
THen there is Share Better at www.sharebetter.com which fights Airbnb in many cities.
Now there is also BewareBnB in Brooklyn, www.bewarebnb.com which fights Airbnb in Brooklyn. Their website looks suited for the Halloween season or a nuclear bunker...one.
