A man was having trouble finding a tenant for his single family home, so he thought about renting it to a couple men who would make it an Airbnb rental. But the neighbors were upset about that idea: www.paloaltoonline.com/news/2016/10/07/neighbors-resolve-conflict-over-potential-airbnb-rentalOne of the parts of this story that I dont' think is being sufficiently highlighted is that the type of Airbnb rental that was planned in this case, would actually produce more affordable housing. The house rents for $6000 a month, which is very expensive, and beyond the reach of many. But those who were planning to Airbnb it, wanted to add more beds to the house and rent out each room. Rooms for rent would be far more affordable than an entire home for rent. So the neighbors and city in this case actually rejected a plan that would have resulted in more affordable housing in the city.
