Airbnb is now working with a realty organization so that you can try a location before you buy a house in the area. I don't think you get to stay in the actual house but you can stay in the general area. www.usatoday.com/story/travel/destinations/2015/06/24/airbnb-test-homes-realtorcom/29206325/Well in my area you better not wait too long if you want to try before you buy, or someone else might have swooped in and bought before you. A house recently sold for $1.3 million after 13 days on the market.

This whole "try before you buy" thing really does work. I had guests moving to town for work, they stayed with me 3 days and a few other hosts in other parts of the city for 3 days each for a couple weeks. Gives them a real feel for the neighborhood.
Similarly, as Deborah has posted, now mattress companies are getting in on the game.. "Sleep on our mattress at these listings."
I suspect we'll see more of this. I'm working on partnering with companies to provide product in our listings--new shampoos, other household things--I've already had guests "DEMAND" to know where I bought my sheets.
I think there are opportunities for hosts to either get good products at low prices (or free) or potentially make commissions when their guests buy stuff. The latter worries me as it may seem pushy to guests.

A house recently sold for $1.3 million after 13 days on the market. I had a couple from the East Coast who rented my family home for a month to try out the neighborhood. They bought a house a few blocks from our house a year later. So I guess the idea is just to make sure that it is the neighborhood you'd like to live in, but not necessarily in a short time frame. I also had a few guests who ended up renting in my immediate neighborhood.
