This is terrifying, The Insideairbnb guy published my name and my partner's name along with links to our profiles (along with other top hosts in Chicago). We made sure that we had no identifying details in our photos and we began rotating which listings were listed and unlisted. We also tweaked the name we went by, think, Mike to Michael B, for example. In the next iteration we were no longer listed on his site. That was very stressful but this is way worse.

That's so horrible! Honestly, the public shaming is a bit much.

With such posters, the slashed tyres and smashed windows will come quickly. I think airbnb should sue them for brand abuse. That's a very expensive lawsuit, as the values are quickly very high and the neighborhood busybody is obliged to pay a lawyer and expensive court fees. (Had that, even winning is expensive)
Shaun, when you changed the name, the reviews are on the old name. Did that matter? Does the profile still come up on google or dropped it out in the end? I was thinking about the dangers for a while...

I've changed my entire name 4 times (legally). All it takes is $109 & an understanding judge. I'm not evading anything, as my SS# has stayed the same. But as a writer, I'm just always editing--and what's more important than your name?

Yes, it is disgusting...it's truly a witchhunt type of situation. And the type of politics we have going on with housing/gentrification issues in San Francisco and the Bay Area, as well as in New York City, (and now in Berlin as well with its recent protests about this issue!) really encourage this kind of mentality that goes into witch-hunts. There is already a mentality that views landlords as greedy bloodsuckers and tenants as poor victims -- this hostility to Airbnb hosts, and the blaming of Airbnb for "gentrification" just adds fuel to that fire and a more extreme slant to that distorted dualism.
I noticed that since I first posted this thread this morning, the article has since redacted the names of the Airbnb hosts. In the original article the FULL NAMES of each of the hosts was shown! WHich is information that cannot be obtained from looking at a host's listing. So this was very invasive.

But as a writer, I'm just always editing--and what's more important than your name? CC I love it!! It's fun and creative! I really love that we can do this -- change our name --- particularly in this day and age of the web, when things can become public info much, much too easily. I have contemplated changing my name but have not done it yet. I do like having my connection to my ancestors through my last name. One thing I am considering, though, is changing my name to connect to DIFFERENT ancestors --- because I have a really cool last name in my family -- Dragunova. (My ancestry on my Mother's side is Slavic) So how's about Deborah Dragunova? Actually I might as well change my first name too while I am at it -- it would fit better than having a Hebrew first name and Slavic last name. however, I dont' want an unusual first name, as this gets to be a hassle.

OMG Deborah, How about Dominatrix Dragunova? Poof!! Problem resolved of how you run your business, and they've agreed to abide by them..OR ELSE!! Cripes, they allow tent space (if you bring your own), Mr Doesn't prefer to be reffered to as Sir Little willy runs the nudist camp. You could probably buy the whole company if it became your desire, with ten million views per day it would evoke. No Vacation for You!! On ward to more accommodation space of creativeness. Just saying..... As always, With much aloha #promises to read how to use this platform another day Ha-Ha....I'd bet plenty of $$ that my new improved 'forum label' became a Neighbor Fixture, didn't go over well with all. Kinda fun to be a pain in the arse vs an attention whore.

Dominatrix Dragunova -- a little racy for me I think Rhonda! Besides which it would get me expelled from Airbnb -- they don't like Doms there, they axed one already who tried to book a place.
Also Dominatrix is too femmy a name for me. David would be more suitable, and suit my androgynous nature. It would be a good balance, to spend half my life as Deborah, the second half as David. Very balanced. But again David is not a Slavic name...
I wonder CC would the judge allow a person to select a name that didnt' match their gender? I would think so ...but I wouldn't really do that...I would hate to confuse people, particularly my guests. I really value being able to be straightforward and clear with people. (But in secret to have a fascinating middle name or last name....)

Aloha D, How's that? Chit, pick any letter. Holy Smokes!! Obviously, I know nothing of this topic. I 'assumed' the word overall referred to 'one in control'. Then society got all twisted with other thoughts and expectations of "Spank me mamma; I've been bad" I always thought those 'fluffy cuffs' were a fantastic idea. For me; I am a free spirit; but your statement once again reminds us that Big Brother is watching and first in line to make an ant pile out of a mole hill. I can't see listings here, but thought I remembered you as having the clearest and most precise house rules and expectations clearly written.
CC will have to clue us in as how Mr Nudist gets away with his listing. House Rules (I'm making this up, thus my need for my own Blathering space you hosts can ignore):
"Since the majority of my guests refuse to their shoes prior to entering the house as is previously mentioned in the house rules that you've agreed to prior to booking my lovely accommodations.
All guests are required to remove every stitch of non-humanoid fibers prior to access.
The key issue later; and there will be a big bag with your name on it for your belongs on the porch."

Yes, it is disgusting...it's truly a witchhunt type of situation. Just...awful. Can't believe the way the world is going. Fascism definitely on the rise. Nightmare here in the UK with Brexit, and I really really hope you don't get the same disbelief waking up to discover Trump is president. Save

P.S. Last word 'Save' is not meant to be there. Have tried editing twice, and it doesn't save the edit ...

Deborah, one of my first names (I've had 4) for about 10 years was Michael, which I think is a gorgeous name for a girl. Michael Learned was the actress who played the mother of the Walton family. And another actress is named Michael Michelle. But when you have a problem with your credit card, the CXs will demand to speak only to your husband & if you try to explain, they'll just put you on hold--forever. Plus when my name was Michael I had to go to the VA hospital for an emergency & the black nurses, instead of treating me, just had a laugh-fest over my name for 15 minutes! In fact, my very long name at the time was so hideous (though I loved it) that when it was announced in open court, everyone in the room just gasped....

HI Trafalgar --
What ever did you do in putting "save" in your post? I went into your post in edit mode and found a huge amount of code around the word "save" --- like this:
span style="border-radius:2px;text-indent:20px;width:auto;padding:0px 4px 0px 0px;text-align:center;font:bold 11px/20px "color:rgb(255, 255, 255);background:rgb(189, 8, 28) url("opacity:1;border:medium none;"][/span]Save[/span
I removed a couple brackets from the code so that it could be viewable here.
PErhaps try clicking on "BB Code" when you compose your replies, instead of "preview" , down in the area to bottom left, and this should help you see the code if any that is around your text. You will need to do this on a PC -- can't do it on a mobile device.
I really want to doubt that Trump could be elected, but stranger things have happened. If he's elected, I am sort of wondering if some folks up high in cahoots with the CIA might realize that they have a new dark ops secret mission, for which it is necessary to hire a hit man -- either that or someone will be appointed to get in there and attach some strings to the orange hair and learn how to operate the puppet from behind the stage.

Very interesting CC! About your name Michael! I like that name quite a lot! Actually it's synchronistic too -- because my real last name is based upon the name "Michael"!! I will not be putting my real last name anywhere on here but suffice to say it is somehow based on that name in another language. You would not easily be able to see that, though.
I also am quite wary of any names which could become a hassle in any corner of daily life. Which is why I would not actually give myself a name that's more commonly associated with a man. I might choose a name that is known to be common to both genders -- like "Kris" -- but really at this point I am not highly motivated to legally change my name. I find that it feels sufficient to engage in other names/identities/adventures in an inner way, secretly, in imagination and sometimes with friends. Who knows though some day it may come time for a shift...
