There is a new option under the pre-approval button to select whether you want to keep your dates open on the calendar after pre-approving someone for that period, or if you want to hold that period for the pre-approved inquiry. At least it's new to me.

Aloha grace, I've seen that option for a long time but couldn't figure out why I'd ever want to use it. I don't know how to create a thread, but was informed of a 'new airbnb experiment' this morning, would be interesting to share regarding reviews, and does not make sense to me at all as a host, or the advantages of how it would help a listing/potential guest's decision for choosing accommodations. I'll find some thread to post it under. I'll probably find something CC has posted and she can copy and paste to share.

Aloha Rhonda,
Is the new "experiment regarding reviews" one that might explain the odd and mysterious disappearance of a negative review that I had recently? I never asked Airbnb to remove it, and I never responded publicly to it, and it's been a month since it was posted, so I am awaiting a response from customer service about how it disappeared and if this is some new courtesy they're doing for super hosts who have all high ratings then get a really low one? Will let you know what I find out.
Regarding why anyone would choose to use the option to block dates for a pre-approval, I can explain why I chose to block it. I had a request for a couple of lovely women from Czeck Republic but the res didn't go through after pre-approval due to their verification process not having been completed with uploads of passport, so I wanted to hold it for them till they could at least get that done, which was done within the hour. So that's one example for which I found the block date option useful.

Well Grace, I give you Kudos on being more accommodating than I. I don't care what the excuse is, awaiting verification, or whatever; "Show me the $$ is where I'm at". I get too many stupid inquiries that I'm pretty much over being any nicer than I am.
The other day I had an inquiry....2 adults...."Can 3 people sleep in this room?"
I responded back that I suppose 30 people could sleep in any of my rooms, but the house listing states there is a maximum of two guests per room.
Idgit responds back "thanks for my help, it's hard to find accommodations in my area to sleep three.
Well yah, book a private house or two rooms.
Why would I change my rules to accommodate such a request as apparently no one else was willing to either.
I posted it under CC's last review of the lady on CC panics and demands handholding. It is regarding how they are now placing reviews per language of choice for the guest to search. Not an accurate chronological order of guests who have experience staying in the rooms, and the Translate to English (for me) option is a thing of the past. POOF!! gone.

It wasn't about accommodating, or being nice. It was about locking in the high money deal over losing it to an instantly booked low money deal. I was taking care of myself first, which paid off nicely.

Good on you for that one. We can't see each other's listings here, but I am so high volume/turn over; I'm the first one to decline or assist them with how to search different listings, as I need some personal time back. Sometime's I'd rather have no guests, or perhaps it might be better stated as "I don't care for any guests", as I've got too much stuff to do besides hosting. Hurricane is supposed to hit dropping 46 inches of rain, 4.3 earthquake last night, too much updating and responding to guests concerns and inquires of "What was that???" Of course I took some time out this morning and had a good morning swim in that perfectly glass flat warm water this morning. Apparently, all boats have been moved out of the harbor as there were no tourist boats out today. Warm sunny day here, not a gray cloud in the sky, no winds, but boy are we afraid. I'm like....of what? The house is still standing; guest was from CA, they just had a 4.7. Other guests never mentioned the quake.

I haven't seen that new option, Grace -- I'll look for it.
