I wonder if this was an instant booking. According to the couple, they had an offer which stated 2 older couples were coming for a wedding and wanted to stay at their home.
Neighbors reported a party bus arriving a couple hours later and it was reported that 100 people were partying for 2 days and nights. Police were called 7 times to respond to complaints.
I urge Airbnb to start sharing more information about guests. Other platforms allow you to call the guest by phone to speak to them. Airbnb does not. You only get a partial name. It is simply not enough information!
I remember the early days when hosts could contact other hosts to ask about a guest. This has been stopped because AIrbnb found hosts booking outside of their platform. Nothing has been replaced.
I also remember the days when we could make a phone call through Airbnb. This too has been stopped. Nothing has been replaced.
In the beginning, I counted on Airbnb for safety but now with the limited information about a guest; I find that I have to spend a lot of time on the internet to verify guests.
The big problem is guests are using other guest's accounts to make bookings. The verified id is not an effective tool.
Yes, AIrbnb quickly responded after the story went public.
Tom:
Hosts need to see the thumbs up or down for guest reviews. And the number of stars.
This is so upsetting to see this happen over and over with no action being taken. It is like playing a game of "Russina Roulette" someone is going to get seriously hurt.
Hosts need more information and Airbnb needs to stop withholding it from us.

ALBERTA, Canada -- Police in Canada say they've never encountered anything like the destruction found in a home rented out on Airbnb
Mark and Star King found tenants through the popular short-term rental website Airbnb. The couple, who have two young children, thought that by renting their two-story home they could make some extra money to fund their own travels.
The lodgers told them that they were in town for a wedding, and only four adults would be staying at the home. They turned over the keys on Saturday. But shortly after, they started receiving calls and texts from concerned neighbors.
One neighbor reported to police that a party bus rolled up and people started streaming into the home.
Police responded to three noise complaints between Saturday and Monday. But the three-day party wasn't shut down until police received a call about a fight in front of the house on Monday morning.
When they arrived, the altercation had already been broken up and there were three people outside the home.
Police said that they were "very uncooperative" and wouldn't give any information about the renter.
It was at this time that the homeowners returned and asked the tenants to leave.
"Girls were wasted on my deck, just totally out of it," Star told CTV Calgary. "So I pleaded with them and said, 'would you girls please just pack up your stuff and leave my home? I'm begging you; I have babies that live here, this is my home.'"
The group eventually left and the couple was able to return home.
Mark said the tenants' actions left him feeling violated.
"I mean, this is our home," he said. "This is our sanctuary."
Photos from the couple's Instagram page also showed the extent of the destruction, but the account has since been set to private.
Couch pillows that had been covered with stains and torn open were piled up in the hallway of the home. Garbage had also been strewn on the floor and the furniture was littered with cigarette butts, spills, and other items left over by partygoers.
Officials say that because of the bodily fluids left in the home, the couple will have to enlist professional cleaners.
Airbnb has promised to pick up the cleaning costs and authorities are pursuing criminal charges."
It sounds so familiar except I wasn't begging them to leave and one of my guests assaulted me and they didn't cause as much destruction. Their party only had 20 people at our home.
Sammy:
Removing un-hosted bookings from the platform would put a end to much of this abuse ...
G:
..how would Airbnb or any hosting platform for that matter know if a place is going to be hosted or non-hosted?
There is a video of walk-through with the police and guest on YouTube:
I am glad to hear the Calgary police are going to be pressing charges against the renters. What jerks!
Deborah:
Agreed! Glad to hear that charges will be pressed. This was a criminal act.
Sammy:
G ... We hosts would then, be required to swear ... Scouts honor ... Preston
Trevor:
We've decided not to do unhosted when we are traveling. A few years ago we did that through Craig's list to help pay for vacations. Always had good experiences. One couple are friends to this day. But decided it's too risky bow
