House Rules Practice
Attachment Deleted

We know most guests don't read house rules at all. Even if they read, they don't remember. Here is what I did: I framed house rules nicely and hang it on the entry wall where they can't possibly miss it. I have another one on the coffee table in the family room. I find it helpful. What other practices you have to remind guests of house rules?

That is quite lovely! I require the guest sign a rental agreement agreeing to the house rules and have a binder that contains the house rules mixed with a lot of manual items on the first page. The top item on the second page is the Wi-Fi info.

I did a similar thing, many guests don't read it even if it is in the entry wall

I like your idea, Helen, and it certainly looks attractive. I see that you offer "entire house", whereas I just offer a room in my house. I'm not sure it would seem very friendly in my case. I usually tell the guests the rules verbally. Does anyone else have something like this posted, when they offer just a room?

We have the house rules and house manual printed and laminated on the backside of the bedroom doors of the three rooms that we list in our shared home affixed with velcro stickers. The wifi code is on the backside of the card so guests have to physically remove the card to get to the wifi. We also require that guests affirm in writing via Airbnb messaging that they have read and agree to the house rules before they check-in.

Juliet, I have something like this posted, though not as nice as Helen's with her illustration in it. I have a photocopy of a list of house rules set in a frame and hanging on the wall in the kitchen. Then I have another list of house rules pertaining to the bathroom, framed and hanging in the bathroom. The one in the bathroom I put there at the request of one of my guests, who was upset that another guest was not cleaning the tub after use. She wanted me to remind everyone of the rules. I also have had several clogs in the toilet, one recently, due I think to guests putting too much toilet paper in the toilet, so yesterday after I snaked out the toilet once again, I put a little sign over the toilet roll, asking people not to put anything but TP in the toilet and to not put too much at once.

Nic and Rach, I put my postcards at some local coffee shops. I don't know whether it generates any booking but I did notice people are taking them. I also gave some of my postcards - the ones people can write on the back - to my guests. I offered to pay the postage and mail for them. So far, one guest wrote three of them!

Hi everyone, last Sept I booked an AirBnB listing in Lake Tahoe. It was a multi-unit building where owner was not present - sort of like a motel. During the entire booking process, I didn't even think to look at the house rules and I am a host myself!! We stayed there for four nights. It wasn't until check-out when I thought: wait a minute, what do the house rules say?
This incident made me realize that people are not used to read house rules. It's not part of their travel ettiquitte. I also notice even people read rules, they don't remember. So I thought maybe putting up a sign that is artful and nice to look at will help remind people of the house rules. I do believe people want to follow the rules if they are clear and easy to read and remember. So far, it definitely helped.
As Debora has said many times, the house rules should be very clear and leave no room of misinterpretation. I also think the rules should be very succinct, short, easy to remember. I try to have less than 7 rules. Anything more than that will get people lost and confused. What do you think?
