I have become increasingly convinced after tons of reading other hosts's experiences, crunching data and tracking stats that I am among the list of those who experienced a big inquiry drop off immediately upon acquiring SH status, so I have decided to try to lose it now. As one member posted about, it's possible that the algorithm will not recognize the change, only built to recognize when one acquires it - not when one looses it.
I will keep you all updated on any changes that occur after July.

Grace, thanks for sharing this -- it seems so very strange!! OF all the oddball things, to think that gaining SuperHost status would be any kind of impediment in getting bookings -- very very odd. I have not investigated this at all so I can't comment on the theory. It is incredibly ironic that any host would try to lose superhost status! It's just the opposite of what we all normally hear. It is funny too in a sad way - I mean I laugh as I imagine you intentionally not cleaning part of your home, or setting up a guest for disappointment, all in order to gain those greatly desired low ratings!
It's just tragically funny.

They can take mine away. AirBnB broke my heart a year ago, remember Deborah? I brought them thousands of dollars, straight 5 stars (like a good girl scout) and they did not give it to me after almost 300 nights booked, as my nights all were assigned to 9 long-term guests. I needed 10 guests. No matter the impeccable reviews for 300 nights. Then comes a new Host, and with 10 one-night stays gets SuperHost status in 2 months (it was a former neighbor). That was the last straw, now I just do a good job. I still have my reinstated SH status and couldn't care less. My last 2 interns came privately through CL. Too bad for AirBnB.

What I remarked on the super host discussions was that most super hosts are really attached to their status and try everything to keep it. That includes refusing guests that might loose you the status. Can it be, that the algorithm has this built in or learnt it from statistics? Do you get less newbies, Belgians, middle aged women on a budget? Half of the newbies and all f the others are keeping me from obtaining it ;-)

Helga, well if that's the case then they should recognize that my stats show that I never reject anyone. I don't think I've ever used Decline, though I often suggest in the message thread that due to their difficulty with reading and understanding the description/rules, they are not suited for this listing, then leave it to them to move along. I happen to like newbies, Belgians and middle-aged women on a budget. I really think it's just a matter of the algorithm being geared toward recruiting new hosts rather than prioritizing us veterans who are already sold on the idea.
Deborah, don't worry! My attempt to lose SH status will in no way impact the guest experience as they will continue to be excellently provided for as always. I will just stop explaining to them about the impact that star ratings have... and also possibly have my elderly gentleman friend return to perform his disturbing twerking demonstration for guests who overstay the check-out time.

I think I just saw your guest running real fast down the street, bags in hand...
And yes, Andrew may have use for an odd specimen....we have to consider the positive uses of everything after all...
