Renting 4 nights a week for multiple weeks?!

Hey all. Sorry if something like this has been covered before, the search on this page is not working at all for me!
I've just had an inquiry who has indicated they want to book just the weekdays, but for multiple weeks in a row. It seems he is starting a job in the area and wants a place to stay during the week while he works and apartment hunts, but then will back home (~2hr drive) on the weekends.
I've rented my room on a monthly basis before (not through airbnb though), and for a higher rate then if this person were to just rent out 4 nights a week for a month. I feel like it just not worth it for me (considering I would be cleaning every friday, which I wouldn't be doing with a monthly rental).
So my question is, has anyone else had someone try to book just during the week for multiple weeks in a row? And how did you handle this? My rate is a bit lower for the area, because I've had a live listing for about a week now, so it seems like this person wants to rent my place for what is essentially a month for less. Some perspective would be appreciated!

Yes, unfortunately the search function for groups doesn't work. Hopefully that will be fixed someday!
This topic does come up from time to time -- sometimes the guest wants 2 or 3 days a week, for every week, for a period of 2 months -- sometimes just the weekends, sometimes the weekdays.
With every rental arrangement, hosts need to determine if the arrangement works for them, and/or come up with a "package" that works for both host and guest. With these kinds of situations where a guest only wants a few days a week but for multiple weeks, the issue for the host is as regards the feasibility of renting out the days the guest doesn't take. For hosts living in a very popular tourist/vacation area where 1-2 night rentals are very common and easily obtained, this may not be an issue at all, because you could more readily depend upon booking the weekends that this guest didn't take. However, for hosts in other areas where there is less demand for 1-2 night rentals, and you aren't sure you would be able to book all or any of the weekends not needed by the guest, then essentially you are looking at a situation where a guest is basically taking the entire month but not wanting to pay for it. So the bottom line is then, what is the total $ amount you are comfortable with.
If I were in this situation, I would tell the guest that they could either book the entire month at a discounted rate that I felt comfortable with (one I felt would not be significantly less than I could obtain by declining him and taking other reservations which might come in) , or could book individual days at a discounted rate for those days -- again, using a rate that I felt comfortable with. Work for some compromise, but don't offer a figure that is lower than you are comfortable with.

I had a repeat guest like this, but he always booked just a few days prior to coming into town for his workweek. If I had availability, cool, if not, he had a few other hosts he would rotate between as backup.

I've had a guest like this as well. I am also currently hosting a weekday only guest off airbnb she has paid the monthly rate an if I book the room on the weekends we split it. It's working well so far. Since I rent rooms in my home I kind of enjoy the weekday only guests.

Yep had the same situation as Leah. He was an awesome guest and really low maintenance so I enjoyed it.

I might offer the guest the room at a rate which included the weekends and offer a discount/reimbursement in the event i was able to rent the room to another party in his absence.

Or offer a discounted rate for the weekdays plus a small weekly cleaning fee to make it worth your time and effort.

Like Leah and Fleur, my experience with my "weekday guest" was great. His hours in my home were very predictable. He used very little in resources as he left early and came in late. I was happy to have the weekends to myself. And turnaround was easy because he was so clean.
