House sitting options
I've been on the house sitting forum before and found it useless. I was wondering if Glenn et el might have some ideas if Airbnb will roll out something in the future? We are going to Europe for a month and I'd love a fellow host to come look after our place.

Man I wish I was unemployed - I'd like to pet some koalas. When are you going?
Wait - there's a house sitting group?!

I think there was a house swap group-- is that what you looked into?

I would totally take off to Australia if I could afford the ticket (or swim that far). House sitting in Australia for a month? Sign me up!
Now as for your House Sitting/Swapping question, I turned to a supreme authority, my special fortune telling cards, The AirTarot. I did a three card spread signifying your past, present and future.
Here is your AirTarot reading:
First card (past): Chip Conley, the Hermit.
Father Time looks for illumination to the star lit lamp. He stands alone on the mountain top, the classical place of meditation.
Interpretation: Your impending vacation is obviously much in need. Time is precious. Clear out deep seated burdens from the past, as they seriously limit the present.
Second card (present): Joe Gebbia, the Six of Swords
The swords are at test. The people are propelled away from the heavily rippled waters and into clear seas.
Interpretation: You must have had some rough reservations lately, but a calm period is ahead where problems can be put aside. Be positive and resist the self-inflicted headaches of the past.
Third card (future): Brian Chesky, King of Pentacles
He dominates the scene on his large throne. The pentacle is shown as his symbol of office. Castles in the air feature quite largely in the background.
Interpretation: Oh this leaves me with even more questions. The King of Pentacles suggests a keen interest and success in career and making money. The King cares for others financially too, but how can he do that with house sitting? Is there a service fee attached? I guess only time will tell...

HIlarious, Glenn!!! I love Tarot, and I love your spin on it...AirTarot! Let's all stay tuned, and see if a King of Pentacles offers to do host housesitting, or create a service to provide that......

Well the King of Pentacles is obviously a host, but I'm not sure this particular host wants to let his friends in for free.

There is witchcraft afoot in the new hosts forum!! Where are the Druids when we need them? But seriously, I'm totally with Fleur in that the house swap forum is fairly useless---except to wile away the minutes/hours daydreaming about sexy houses on beaches or in euro-cities...Someone please tell me they've done successful swaps thru that forum!!

That's the best laugh in ages! Thanks Glenn. All I could think was God bless America and your liberal pot laws lol!

Hey Rick supposedly you and I have been busy 'bullying' a lady called Stefanie on the product updates forum! Shame on us. I think we both told her to calm down about superhost status but she says we called her stupid and idiot? Hmmm Very odd indeed. Maybe she needs a AirTarot reading by Glenn.

Thanks Fleur! I often wonder how things are going over next door in Products. It sounds like it's business as usual. I can't say that I miss it

Wow....I don't remember saying anything to that Stefanie ?? do you?? but I suppose if she was going on & on about the superhost thing...I might have told her to chill a bit...Everyone is stressing about stars & ratings!! Sheesh...now they are anxiously awaiting the newest (email hidden)rhaps we should all get back to hosting.....

Sometimes we can all use a reminder to chill out. Ommm...

Some people have challenges for which most are unaware. (This is sometimes referred to as "crazy" by the layperson.) As for the Products group, I left some time ago. I'll lurk around in there, but I found the overall tone to be incredibly negative. I just got tired of the nonstop bitching. Groups need moderation and the Products group hasn't had that for over a year and it shows.

I'm glad you all found this funny. That was the idea. I guess something told me we were all getting way too serious to be running illegal bed and breakfasts.
Of course if you are looking for abundant bitchiness there's never any shortage at community.homeaway.com
Now for AirTarot, I'll have to think about that. Wouldn't that be a hoot to bring an Airbnb themed set of Tarot cards to Paris next year? (I can only assume they will let me in the Eiffel Tower or wherever the Fort is next year.)
Interesting story. My one and only Tarot card reading was in 1996 on Venice Beach. I still remember walking down the boardwalk thinking, "This place is crazy." Little did I know 15 years later I would move to LA after living in 3 other cities.
I don't get to Venice often enough but when I do everything seems tame and normal instead of wild and crazy. I don't know if that speaks more about me or Venice, but I do love it here.

You nailed it with card two I can tell you! AND stupid me missed the cut off date to give a scathing review of my problem guest. Nice to see the jovial Glenn back and trying to lighten things up a bit.

LOL. I scattered some, interesting comments around a few threads if you've noticed. Don't sweat the scathing review of the Guest. OKFine you "should" have done that in support of the community, but you made an honest mes

Sorry my Tourets Syndrome kicked in... As I was saying, don't sweat the scathing review of the Guest. OK, fine you *should* have done it in support of the community, so Bad Fleur. If you received a Guest review, it wasn't bad, and if you didn't, you might have been lucky. It's happened to me. I don't

(continued) have a bad review on my profile. Am I just THAT good? (Well since you asked...) No I've been lucky with the really bad reservations. Sometimes it doesn't work out and the last thing a guest wants to do is relive the horror that is your listing. When you consider it could significantly damage an otherwise impeccable host. Sometimes you just get lucky.

There is also a house swap Airbnb like site. It's called home exchange. I have friend who uses it (with his family couple and two kids) a lot and love it. A guest even let them use their car.
Glenn - I need your Air reading for the new year. willing to pay for your clairvoyant services...
