why can't other sites be like airbnb?
I have tried using flipkey and vrbo and both seem to be more work than they're worth. I keep getting questions like, "how much would this rental cost?" and "is it available." Then I have to send out "invoices" to book and never hear back. Just a shout out to AB&B for getting this thing right.

That's interesting. HomeAway/VRBO works like a dream for me. I also get more traction from it.

really? Can you help me out? With VRBO people don't seem to know how much the total listing will be. I have to tell them. Do you the property damage protection? I have that PLUS a $500 deposit, which they are charged at booking. It may be scaring people off. Also nervous about renting to "unknowns." At least here you get to see a photo, description and review. It seems more like a community. What are your experiences?

Potential guest on AirBnB also ask similar questins. Th einformation is right up front on the web page, but I think its their way of starting a request for a discount.

Ding! Ding! It's like they're at the flea market or something. How much for two listings and the guest over there in the corner? Now what exactly is this "cleaning fee?" If we end up not needing maid service, we get that back with the deposit, right? Oh, I see... Are you sure about that? I could have sworn I saw a listing two streets over that said the maid service is included if you use it or not as long as you stay more than two nights. I'm already over budget so I guess I have to go with the other guy. I mean, unless you would like it instead. You seem like you are a much better host than what's his face. Your reviews are way better.

FlipKey is showing the cost of my place including the $500 deposit. I'm surprised I get any inquiries/requests. Their app is horrible and the texting stopped when their dashboard had an "upgrade." It makes the Airbnb site look good.

I get millions of questions that are answered very plainly in my ad. 'Is it a whole flat or just the room' when it's dead clear it's a room. 'How much per night' when it's clear what it is per night. You could just bulletpoint things of importance and they'd still ask so I'm not sure it's a platform issue

I do find myself really wondering what it is. Sometimes it's hard to resist the temptation to suggest that people read the listing. In fact sometimes, when I can slip it in, in a way that sounds non-judgment, I do. I usually add something slightly self-deprecating like I know I go on and on… Ha ha. It is frustrating though and I do have a lot of thoughts about how the way that people are making choices in terms of bookings, interfaces with the way the "sharing economy" seems to be changing. What I love about Airbnb is the matching between peoples desires and what other people have to offer. When the capitalist, only bottom line cost comparing, becomes predominant, then what is the difference between what we are doing and a cheap motel six? I want it to be different. I really believe that Airbnb can impact this a lot by how they market, what they ask and suggest of guests, The expectations they set up for guests, and where they seem to be putting their focus. I think when you oversaturate on the host side, we get closer to a sharing economy model that looks like capitalism with a politically correct mask on.
