For guests traveling alone, does anyone sometimes ask them to join us for dinner?
I had a single gentleman stay and since he was hanging around while I was cooking dinner, I asked if would like to join us. He did and it was fine. Now I have a single woman joining us for 4 nights and thinking she might appreciate an offer to join us one night. Do others do this? Probably wouldn't think it necessary if there were two guests but if someone is traveling alone, I think it is a nice gesture once in a while. People don 'to like to eat alone, yes?Thoughts?

We have had many of our quests stay for dinner. I think it's one of the great aspects of hosting - sharing beyond! My husband loves getting the call at work . . ." OMG, I love our new guests, I've invited them for dinner tonight!"
Enjoy . . .

I have done so. I usually wait a few days into the guest's stay. By then, they have worked out how to get meals on their own and my offer comes as a treat rather than creating the expectation that I will be providing meals every day. I love being generous to my guests. But I don't want to create any expectations that I can't meet for the duration of their stay.

We have just started hosting, but have really enjoyed having a dinner with our guests who are staying more than 1 or 2 nights. I figure that way they have time to enjoy some of our local restaurants, and like Sheryl I wait until a few days into their stay so I don't create an awkward situation where they assume there will be a dinner provided every night.

I have done breakfast and dinner. Sometimes cooked by me sometimes by then. It really depends on the guest and our interactions.

Yes julie we are more of a guesthouse our rooms are not in the main house and we are a little far from the main town, so we have a small menu for guests if they wish to eat here, my husband is a great cook which is good lol

I set it as a goal to have at least one interactive activity with each guest, to make their stay unique and memorable. Like Sheryl, I don't tend to offer dinner on the first night, so as not to set the expectation that it will be offered every night (I often work night shifts). But if I know I'm going to be cooking at home I usually make a point of having enough food on hand to invite guests as well.

It's a norm in our hosting to invite our guests to join us for Breakfast or Lunch or dinner depend on their busy schedules we wow our guests with her special organic pancake and special gluten free rice cake with cheese bacon, eggs and ham on the side/ or I cook dinner and serve them with my special braided tilapia curry, and chicken/pork adobo/ yu-choi veggie with garlic and sesame oil and they just love it. we shared stories and sing karaoke while we drink wine. just pure and simple fun and it's a great moment.
