Extras package deal
Hello team airbnb,
I'm loving airbnb hosting! And especially love the little treats and attention to detail aspects of preparing for the guest's stay. However, I wondered whether anyone had done a special package deal, chocolates on arrival, some bubbly chilling in the fridge, extra beautiful she's butter creams or lotions, a picnic basket full of gourmet treats, unlimited minibar etc?
I'm a bit of a romantic and would love this myself as a guest! Is this a, feasible b, economical c, possible on airbnb site? How would you price, list and charge it?
Ideas?!
Thanks Theane

I guess I kind of think of it as built into the standard listing price. We just give bottles of water, chocolates, mints, and bananas. They seem like a nice touch, and the waters seem to be the biggest take. The world is your oyster
Make it as grand as you want it.

Hi Theane,
Are you thinking of a package deal that guests would pay for when they book? I've never seen something like that on Airbnb, and it might feel to the guest like you're "upselling" them. Really you just want to give them a delightful experience. As Justin says, make it as grand as you want!
However, I wouldn't charge extra for most of the things you mention. I also provide snacks and nice toiletries, and I think of it as part of the total rate. Perhaps you could charge for a minibar or a picnic basket. Items you charge for should be mentioned in your listing. I know that some hosts have an honor system, where a sign clearly labels the cost of items, and guests leave money in a designated place. Of course you wouldn't do this for snacks on arrival or for things like lotions.
Be careful - hosts have mentioned that, when they go out of their way to provide something, guests may become more demanding or have unreasonable expectations. That said, I think your ideas are great; have fun with it! Just work within your economic limits.

Hi thanks for your comments
As you say you want to give guests a wonderful stay. I do provide a full continental breakfast including home baked bread, homemade marmalade, muesli, yoghurt, juice, tea coffee etc and this is included in the price. Plus I leave delicious little toiletries (soaps, creams, etc) on their towels
But I was thinking of the above and beyond things like wine, gourmet chocolates etc...
I suppose what you're suggesting is to accommodate these extra treats in the overall price? But I don't want to overlook the more basic traveller hence thought I could do an extras bit...
Thanks again

Wow! I love that breakfast! You wouldn't want wine and gourmet chocolates to figure in to your rate. You'd have no profit margin left! Perhaps you could just put in your listing description that you offer a deluxe package for a certain price (include the price.) You want to keep the basic travelers. I just don't think there's a place where this would go in the standard listing template, but you can certainly put it in your description. I hope you get more feedback on this - I'm really interested to know if other hosts have tried it.

To answer the logistical question, Extra Services is now an option that can be charged with the Resolutions tool after a booking is confirmed. If you're still at the Inquiry phase and a guest has expressed interest in extras, you can also build them into a Special Offer.
Generally, I wouldn't expect stuff like wine and chocolates to be extras that guests would choose to pay extra for, but I think they're nice things to offer on occasions when you're charging a premium rate (New Years, Bank Holidays) or when you're hosting a special occasion (weddings, anniversaries, birthdays).
Things that many guests seem genuinely happy to pay for as add-ons: airport pickups, private tours, food hampers, maid service (in Entire House listings), spa/massage treatments, gym passes. Wine, on the other hand, is easy to obtain locally, and when people know they're paying separately for it they tend to prefer to choose their own.
