New and need advice- to lock or not to lock
Hi all- I'm new and hoping to post my place for the holidays. After reading the posts it sounds like most people rent out a room and stay there while the guests are there. Is this common practice? Does anyone rent the entire apartment while out of town? What are recommendations on personal belongings? Closets, dressers, etc. Do you lock everything? Any advice is appreciated

First and most important -- you need a photo of yourself on your profile rather than the cartoon blank.

Thank you Deborah. I am traveling this week for work and trying to figure airbnb out in my downtime. I plan to fully build out my profile and listing when I return home and can fully complete the setup. In the meantime, I was thinking through logistical questions that may influence my decision as to whether or not to list my apartment. Any advice on protecting personal items is appreciated

I used to rent my whole flat and go away and still do it sometimes when out of town. I don't own anything pricey. I bring my passport along, that's all. I know for sure they take a look at my drawers and closet... But you need to be comfortable with that idea before renting. If you have photo albums, they'll go through it also! I don't have a lot of stuff around and keep the place very tidy so people are less inclined to have a look...

Lock up and remove any bank account numbers, government-issued ID, credit card numbers, etc. I am in my home with guests, but I don't worry about items missing. I worry more about identify theft. I can't say I actually "worry" about it, but I don't want to leave anything tempting around and then have to think if anything happened, it would be a guest that did it. It's more for my peace of mind.
