Waterproof Mattress Pads
I have nice cushioned mattress pads on all my beds. I would like to purchase waterproofpads to place under the mattress pads to protect the mattresse. Any suggestions of what type of mattress protector I should purchase that is not too expensive and isn't noisy? Thank you!

All of the big box stores have them, including discount houses...I'd personally buy one with a zipper...they are not noisy...you won't even know they are there...they can be found for under $10---sometimes $5 or less

Thanks Rick. I think I need to purchase one that is not zippered because I have pillow top mattresses and I am not sure the zippered ones will fit.

they may have the "extra deep" ones ---the same as the sheets they now sell, I'd check at the major stores...I'm sure bed bath & beyond carries them, plus wal mart & target, etc..

We purchased the breathable, anti allergen, bed bug, zippered version for Queen and Full size beds from Bed Bath and Beyond. They're not cheap ($80) and are a bit loose, and may accommodate mattress pads. Haven't had a complaint about the look and feel.

We did the same, Yvonne. They are well worth the extra price to never have to worry about bed bugs. We even put one on our own TemperPedic King. You don't even have to worry about spills, allergies & pet hair with these. I'm headed back to the States this summer for a wedding and hope to find something similar for all the pillows. Any suggestions??

In addition to mattress protectors, you can buy pillow inner liners with zippers. Alternately, I use TWO pillow cases to protect my pillows from mouth fluids...makes my pillows last much longer and more sanitary! (I also sometimes air out my pillows by putting them in the sun --both sides--for an hour or two)

Before we put them in the sun to air out, we spray both sides with a mild Lysol solution and we wash them frequently. I like the idea of 2 pillow cases.

It is good to replace pillows now and then, when they appear to be stained or lumpy-- Washing them makes mine really lumpy. I find very inexpensive replacements at ROSS. (note: bedding is tax deductible)

You are lucky, the cost of bedding is just about triple what you can buy it for in the States and it is not tax deductible in my country. We have to make everything last as long as we can, so we use very high quality pillows, and fortunately they never get lumpy when they are washed.

I also found excellent pillow protectors (quilted ones) at Tuesday Morning. I've also seen the quilted ones online...I prefer them because they are padded & any escaping feathers don't seem to come through...Pillow case over the top & you are ready to go!! Do you guys wash feather pillows?? I generally don't...suggestions?

Does a duck take to water?!? We always wash our down pillows. If you use the rubber dryer balls, or a clean pair of tennis shoes in the dryer, you feather pillow will plump up and be beautiful again. I have one set of beautiful down pillows that must be 8+ years old on our bed that is still like new after a good washing. My husband won't travel without it.

PROBLEM: Keeping Pillow Clean & Sanitary!
SOLUTION:
1. Replacing them peridodically
2. Using pillow liners or 2 pillow cases per pillow
3. Washing pillows / sunning pillows (put in sun to freshen or dry)
QUESTIONS:
1. What is the best way to wash a pillow? I use front loader myself
2. What is the better pillow to use: a. down, b. down & feather c. feather only, d. synthetic filling (please say why as well)
3. Can germs be transffered from pillow use? (what about guests using decorative pillows for naps which they sometimes do (resting on the couch). These are even harder to wash!

I have been checking out waterproof mattress covers. Very confusing after reading different reviews. Not sure which one to purchase. I would like to find a good one that doensn't cost more than $50.00. Checked out Bed, Bath and Beyond and Kohls.

When you buy such items as pillow protectors and mattress pads, you are Investing the the care and quality of your Home(product) also, if you were ever to get a Bedbug infestation,
it will make removal much easier. The Cost to have an Exterminator come to your home is $$$$$
Always protect your investment

Great suggestion! Sleeping comfortably is very important for all our Airbnb guests! (I get nice comments all the time on how comfortable my guest bed is --it is a custom futon frame with a custom (8 inch) foam, spring and cotton filled (email hidden)metimes at guest request I put an extra foam topper on it, but most like it as it is.

You never regret buying quality , but you always do when buying a lesser product
its not a good place to cut corners with cheap bedding or mattresses . It will cost you more in the long run if you buy inferior products . Especially if you buy a cheap mattress or sheets
back problems from the mattress and thread bare sheets after a wash or two . Including getting a bad review for having poor items like that . It seems to me , many Hosts are not doing a basic ROI thinking when it comes to pricing and quality amenities . If you look at all YTD year to Date Sales , you should be at least using 10% of that to reinvest into your property and amenities . Even if you charge a modest price , you have to reinvest it in your space . It pays off in the long run .
