Guests who enjoyed ALL that Washington has to offer
I just had three very nice guests fly here from across the country, then they rented a car at the airport and used my cottage as a base for exploring the Olympic National Park. Apparently they decided to also explore the recreational marijuana stores, because when I went to clean after they left, the place REEKED! I don't know what kind they bought, but is was by far the strongest I've ever smelled. I had to pull the mattress outside to air out, and all the spare pillows, and wash every comforter and blanket. The thing is, I would not have minded if they would have wanted to sit outside on the patio furniture in front of the cottage and openly smoke, because it is legal here and they are on private property. My house rules do say no smoking inside, but they are welcome to smoke outside. But apparently, they didn't feel comfortable doing so. I wonder if I should put a note up inside the cottage?

We live in an area where pot smoking is not uncommon. We have no smoking inside or outside-on our house rules and on a sign inside the cottage.

How awful for you I'd certainly be getting a claim in for dry-cleaning of soft furnishings.
Hate the smell of smoke, pot is a whole new level. Nasty.

strong smell = hash ... ?

Oh, no it doesn't even need to be hash. When I was out there last year (Washington being my home state) I decided to go to one of those legal weed stores and see what all of the fuss was about. Talk about bringing the collective hipness of the store down by half when I walked in

Whatever is in the new pot, it's about 10 times stronger that whatever was there
before. I can tell you I would be rip-s**t if someone came in smelling like that to my home. Also, last year when I stayed at an Airbnb in Seattle, the folks who rented the other half of the duplex were smoking pot right outside our window, and the nasty smell wafted into our side of the place. It was nasty.
I think if I lived in Washington or Amsterdam or wherever it's legal, I wouldn't want it on my property, period, at least in smoking or vaping format. Now the "elixir", that's another story for another day......
