Hi, I am about to take my first guest. Are there any single women hosting? Do you ever feel unsafe
Is there anything to do to feel safer. I'm a little stressed about hosting a male be definitely want to do this!
Thanks

Diana,
I'm a single female having done it for 2 years AirBnB and 6 years previously. I would suggest filling out your profile and about me section as you want to know about your guests they want to know about you. And ask questions the Who, What, Where, When, Whys! And trust your gut instinct!

@diana I'm also a single female but do not tell guests
I have a "husband' who works away from home but turns up any day.
Also suggest that you , like many others on here do not put a picture of you with your baby if you feel nervous take a photo with a close male relative or friend for your profile picture
And take Penny's advise , although many guests don't say in advance what they really do.

Hi Diana,
I'm also a single female host and I love hosting single men. I get loads of guy guests, some gay some straight and they have all been brilliant! If I could host only single men I would. They're nice, respectful, don't leave mess and really all around great guests. Low maintenance, don't complain and are happy to have somewhere clean to stay. And always leave a superb review. CC may be kicking about on here somewhere and she's the same. Loves hosting the men. So low maintenance!

@diana soooo agree with you they don't clog the shower plugs with long long hair washes every day
I adore hosting single guys
They go to work come home to change and go straight out again my current singleton takes the trash out and replaces light bulbs in the ceiling he always brings me a treat at night such as a chocolate bar and good reviews

My friend is a single woman and I used to go over and meet her guests all the time. She never had a problem with guests. One of them we are actually good friends with now. The fact that you have to ID verify seems to help weed out the worst of it. And don't be afraid to ask someone to leave if they make you uncomfortable. Your place, your rules.

I get a lot of single men even in a shared space. After half a year on site hosting (but many years full apartment rentals), I even put it on Instant Book. Some guests told me they prefer women as they expect the place to be cleaner. (Prejudices, but in this case helps us selling).
Penny sums it up for precautions and I'd support Sara, don't put the baby photo on the profile. It signals you vulnerable to the strange types and the others will suppose noise and other inconveniences.
- If you signal that you are business like and bossy although nice, you won't get the manipulative types. At least I don't. Some people are messy, but most are very nice and respectful, men and women alike. Get a lock inside your bedroom and bathroom door to calm your worries, but you'll probably never need it. Good luck

Hi, Lisa! Yes, CC is kicking around here! And of course, I try my very best NOT to host women, period. Most unfortunately, they book anyway. Not necessarily because she's female, but I got in a new little chick last night who checked in while I was at work. Literally two minutes later I got a call from one of my other peeps saying she was asking for a ride in the morning! She's from another country, so she's making this trek across America--but is ironically "without transportation." For 2 nights she's paying less than $60. How is this supposed to come with rides somewhere now--and how does it become the problem of me & my other peeps? Let me get on Google translate & find out how to say "That's your problem" in Portuguese.

Aha! Thanks, Dave, as my recent use of Google Translate has proven very iffy indeed!

Both my first guests have been men, I have an apartment with a separate entrance and locks on the doors to my living space. I have been nervous, but the first two have been super great and I only accept bookings from those with good references, reviews, and info about themselves! I'm in Utah so I think the majority will be serious skiers but I did ask questions about them anyway!

I tend to agree about men being more low-maintenance. The most complainy guests I've had have all been women.
