Some advantages to getting a guest from Craigslist...
THere are pros and cons to using Craigslist to finding guests. Mostly I prefer to use AIrbnb because you get more info on the guest, they have filled out a profile, your payment is thru Airbnb so no worries about that, and you have the backing of Airbnb insurance and host guarantee and the customer service support for difficulties (not perfect but can help at times).
However there is one area where there are strong "pros" in finding someone from Craigslist, and that is, as regards disposition of the security deposit. It's fantastic to not have to get permission from any third party, to be able to make a claim on the security deposit, which I have had to do for a few of my CL guests. In particular, several hosts have reported that Airbnb doesn't allow hosts to assess fees on guests, even when those fees are clearly stated in the house rules. I consider this wrong. I have stated that violations of house rules may result in a $20 fee per incident, and I recently had to assess that fee, and was not barred in doing so. I had a guest violate the rule about not having mail sent to my home or using my address for any purpose. She set up a bank account using my address, which resulted in me ending up getting about 6 letters to my house and forseeably more. WHen she left, I held back part of her security deposit, stating she had violated the rules and now I would have to deal with her mail, so I was compensating myself for time spent on this nuisance.
