Duped!
I guess it is my fault but I just had a guest who went around me with her mother to get a stay at my carriage studio.
I had declined her request over a month ago because she wanted to use my studio for a photography shoot.
Below is her initial inquiry.
Hi , I'm a model from Los Angeles and I will be in town visiting family for thanksgiving. I would really love to do a shoot in this apartment and I would only need it for one afternoon. You can see my portfolio with my agency at this link (URL HIDDEN) please let me know if I could use your space, thank you!!
I declined saying thanks for” thinking of us but we haven’t as yet allowed the studio for photography shoots".
I just didn’t have a policy and didn’t want to go thru the hassle.
Apparently her mother made a 2 night (my minimum) reservation while I was sitting in my hotel room just as the police and ambulance were beginning to wail while in Paris and the terrorist attacks were beginning. I was right on Republique Square.
She told me her 19 year old daughter was coming to visit family for Thanksgiving. I made her give me her daughters name and post profile picture of her daughter. Her name didn’t click.
It was my last opening for the month so II approved it.
Last night as I was going into my house I looked up at the carriage house and saw a curious thing thru the window, I was wondering if she had taken off my lamp shades. About 30 minutes later (still suffering jet lag) i recognized that the lighting was professional equipment I remembered the conversation with the little model and went back thru my inbox .
Sure enough there she was in the inbox with her portfolio picture.
This mornning it was apparent she had left very early, I texted her before entering to make sure she was gone. I think she is now staying with family. I checked the space and she had left dishes, sticky counters, trash and melting raspberry ice cream in the refrigerator.
I think I should wait till the 14 day is up to post a review but I’m unsure about a restriction on the use of the photos. If I even have a case.
Also, I have had young guests that were Wonderful, so I don’t want to discriminate against all young people.
How would you word this review ?
Deb and Dave:
That is too bad! I would definitely write an honest review and I am not sure why you would need to wait 14 days as she would not see your review until she either writes a review or the time expires.

Tell it like it is in your review and although the review will be for the mother, name the daughter as well. That should make them think twice about doing this again, assuming another host will let them in the door!

I would not only write about this in the public review, but call Airbnb and tell them about it. Guests who do this kind of thing should receive censure from Airbnb.
In the review, I might say:
"Unfortunately, I cannot recommend either X (Mom's name) or Y (daughter's name) who actually stayed in my apartment. There were multiple violations of Airbnb policy and my own policy. I first received an inquiry from Y, who wanted to use my apartment not for accomodations, but for a photography shoot. I declined, as I did not want my apartment used in that manner. Later on, X asked to stay at my apartment, and I did not realize she was Y's mother. I approved X's request to stay, and then, in violation of Airbnb policy against third party bookings, X did not actually stay, but made the reservation for Y, who in turn, did not use my home as an accomodation as I intended, but rather for the photo shoot which I had earlier prohibited. In addition, Y left my apartment in a messy state. Due to their duplicity and direct violation of my wishes, I warn hosts against accepting a reservation from either of these individuals. "

Tell it like it is, Deborah!
Brenda:
Thank you Deborah, I was so hoping you would respond.

You must have a beautiful place if she wants to photo shoot at it. Take it a a compliment but write Deborah's review x

I would write her immediately through the messaging system that you are very annoyed that she passed by another booking after you clearly forbid photo shooting in your place. You repeat that you do not accept that the shooting has taken place, that you forbid ANY bit of your apartment to show on any of the pictures used in public and that you will pass a copyright claim if you ever discover a non authorized sight of your apartment. You ask for confirmation that none of the pictures of your interior will be used, you reserve further measures like suing her and contacting her agencies if ever you discover a picture of your space used by them. I would make it really clear that you are furious and that these pictures will cost her a lot of money.

Don't want to freak you out even further but are you sure this was a serious photo shoot? Had a photographer wanting to shoot at my place and googling led me to porn fetish sites... and it makes sense to rent a real home over prepping a studio to look like a bedroom :/
helga
That's a comforting thought! But a porn website makes more money than an unprofessional model, so the copy right claim menace could work better.

Deborah, you are so good in responding things like this, I usually take notes of your words but hopefully I don't need them often!
