What may be one of the scariest host stories of the year!
Beware and check Verifications!!
I recieved a notice Airbnb cancelled a guest the morning after he stayed with me. When I asked why they said he violated anti trust rules. They emailed and called the day of the booking to inform me to not allow him in, and told him not to check in. I did not get the message, and he arrived. He was sketchy, lived close by, had no plans , and brought 2 sketch friends and they hung out in my living room all evening, then left at 2am. It was odd and did not feel right. Luckily my boyfriend was here. Later in the news the next day I saw his photo and found out he was on the run for shooting and killing a guy. This was in part my fault. There was no picture, no verifications, no reviews. I approved him quickly not thinking. Do not do this! It could be very dangerous. I was ok. He left without incident. Thank god! But beware to other hosts.

Eeeek! There's a story for the Grandkids. Thankfully you came through this unscathed.
Julia:
Have you found out why you did not get the message from airbnb?
Karen:
They sent me a message, I just didn't know they did.
Raymond & Elaine (elaine):
You were very lucky. Thanks for shareing so we can all learn from it.
Fleur (fleur)
holy moly why didn't they call you as well? that is terrible
Karen:
They left a voice mail that I didn't check. Another lesson learned. Check voice mail if you feel uncertain about a guest!
Rosanne:
What a terrible experience for you. I am happy to hear no harm was done to you.
Ed & Hugh:
Wow scary. Turn on verification!
Adriane:
How could Airbnb know they were dangerous?
Karen:
I'm not sure they did or if it was coincidence. It could have been a breech in verification or maybe a credit card fraud. Not sure they would not tell me why the cancelled beyond it was to do with anti trust and safety rules.
nathalie:
That is the anecdote of the year. Scary.
Cynthia:
Wow, very frightening!
Jessa (jessa):
Karen I'm so sorry to read this, honestly one of the worst airbnb experiences I have ever heard of. Will you continue hosting? How do you feel in your own home? After a violent airbnb incident my best way of regaining a sense of home in my home was to dive right into hosting again (because for a while I felt completely alienated in my own walls). PM me if you should feel like reflecting on this with another host who hosted criminals. Bon courage!
Rose:
WTF?! How scary! How far in advance did he book your place? Did you tell the police he had been there?
