New status indicator: "awaiting payment"
I just accepted a reservation request this morning, but instead of going to 'accepted" as is usual, the status shows up as "awaiting payment." (in yellow letters). The dates are blocked out on my calendar just as if the reservation had been confirmed and accepted in the normal way, it's just that the status is not "accepted" and there is no reservation form or itinerary available. Going to the message page with the guest, there is a blue box across the top of the page that says "awaiting payment." I haven't seen this before so maybe it's new?
Bridget and Mark:
Let us know how it resolves!
Eric:
This is slightly worrying. I haven't experienced this "awaiting payment" yet, and there may be a good reason for introducing this, but I can't help feeling that, as hosts, we're being exposed to increased risk of losing potential enquires and bookings. How long should we "await payment" for instance? 24 hours? 1 week? 1 month? Worrying!
Please do advise how this resolves. Thanks.
Deborah:
THis resolved quickly. In fact it was only a matter of minutes, after seeing the "awaiting payment" status, that it then turned into "accepted." So, I am thinking that possibly Airbnb has a new process, whereby instead of immediately showing an accepted reservation as "accepted", they show it temporarily as "awaiting payment" just to verify that payment was indeed processed. THis would allow them to avoid getting into an awkward situation where they issue you a reservation confirmation and say the reservation was accepted, only to have to turn around and send you another message saying that there were problems with the payment. Which sometimes happens.
Eric:
Makes sense. Thanks for closing the loop on this one Deborah.
Keith:
I suspect that the 'awaiting payment' status is not really new but previously was behind the curtain and now we are seeing it . Earlier today a few days on my calendar were blocked. The days had an 'awaiting verification ' tag. I had already declined the inquiry. Refreshed the calendar and all was fine. Another peak behind the curtain. Similarly if you calculate the number of inquiries on your dashboard stats it will likely be more than the inquiries you received. This is because some inquiries never get to you. They are blocked for various reasons before we even see them.
