The D.C. Council voted unanimously Tuesday to impose some of the tightest limits in the nation on Airbnb and other short-term rental companies.
If signed by the Mayor, the measure would prevent D.C. property owners from renting out second homes on a short-term basis and bar them from renting spare rooms or basements in their primary residences for more than 90 days per year when the host is away.
I'm not clear why these would be viewed as among the tightest limits in the nation. There are numerous cities in the US where no short term rentals are permitted at all, and there are also many others where hosts are not permitted to do short term rentals in anyplace but their primary residence -- I would think those limits are comparable.
