Guest wants reservation alteration, but ...
I posted previously about how when guests try to do a reservation alteration, the revised price they get is generally coming out wrong. It's most always too high. What I noticed is that whatever discounts were factored in to obtain the original price, are removed when the reservation is altered. I dont' know if that is intentional on Airbnb's part or not...it has been going on for some time now and I would think that if it were a mistake they'd have fixed it.
So for instance if a host has a weekly discount and/or monthly discount, and the guest booked a stay of 45 nights, they get a monthly discount for stays over 28 days. BUt if the guest does a reservation alteration to make the stay 34 nights intead, what's happening is they are losing the monthly discount and being asked to pay the regular nightly price.
But today I found out that there may be yet another issue involved in doing reservation alterations. A guest wanted to change her stay from 3 months to just 35 days. She says that when she tries to do a reservation alteration, she sees that the service fees Airbnb would charge her, do not change, So, she's being expected to pay the same service fee for a 35 day reservation as she would pay for the 3 month reservation, meaning if she originally paid a 10% service fee, then if her accomodations cost is cut by 2/3, her service fee is staying the same, meaning she would end up paying an effective 30% service fee on the 35 day reservation!
I have never heard of that before. Anyone else have any experience with this or hear such things from guests?
