Metropolitan Museum of Art to partner with Airbnb and rent out "Period Rooms" The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Airbnb have launched a partnership that will allow visitors to rent out several of the institution’s historical rooms for a night at a time. The announcement comes after reports that the museum is facing a budget shortfall of $10 million. "Metbnb" pricing seems to be targeted at the luxury tourism market and wealthy New Yorkers looking to book an exclusive staycation. The Frank Lloyd Wright designed Little House is renting for $2,500/night, while the ancient Roman Villa of P. Fannius Synistor room can be procured for $2,000/night. On the extremes is the extravagant bedroom from the Venetian Sagredo Palace, which is renting for $5,000/night, while the 18th-century New York Dutch Room can be snagged for the almost affordable $1,300/night.

Nice idea. Easy to enforce check-out times too: the museum Will open at 9am, you better checkout before 8:50! Otherwise you become an exhibit.
When I was in the Musée d'Orsay museum with Edith, we admired a few such rooms, from the last and the 19th century. I took a few pictures and sent one to my mother as a joke : "Found a solution for a washstand in my bedroom (where I have no water yet)" A beautifully ornated fountain, nearly black, carved wood, with a reservoir on top, to get water through the tap and a reservoir under the sink, which the chambermaid could empty by a spigot into a bucket. The whole thing half the size of my room. My mother answered, if I really wanted it so dark. ;-) After consideration, and as Edith does not want to drive the escape truck, we will leave it there and I'll lay some pvc pipe.
