I just found out about this vacation rental platform through my own exploration of trying to find a place to stay for a getaway later this month. I was seeking to rent an entire unit, some type of cottage or small unit in the woods, preferably a very unique and creative one.
I searched online under Google using keywords that described the type of place I was seeking, and found this very charming rental in the woods near Mendocino, CA, that looked like a house out of the Lord of the RIngs stories. It was listed both on VRBO and on www.vacasa.com
I saw a phone number on the VRBO listing and called it, but was pretty disappointed to find out that the owner of this property does not participate in any way in the rental of his or her property. The owner uses Vacasa to do all rentals, which is apparently both a Vacation Rental platform and a property management service. They have vacation rentals all over the USA and use local property managers to attend to the properties.
This disappointed me.... I realize that there is something that seems really important to me about staying at a place where the owner actually lives. In this case, there was the additional problem that the 20 acre property where this little Hobbit Home was located, has a 2nd house on the property, and that too is a vacation rental. So I could end up renting the one space and looking for a very quiet retreat like setting, and then discovering that I had a family with 3 noisy and boisterous kids renting the other home. But....I reasoned...that probably isn't as likely in the woods in fall...
The fact that I wasn't even able to communicate with the actual owner of the home was very disappointing. I felt so disappointed because the place was just incredibly charming!!! I would want to talk to the person whose style and thought and tastes went into creating this, and it's a bummer that I can't! I rented the place anyway.
