The landlord of this tenant's building didn't need one of the "Airbnb police" startups to find his tenant doing illegal subletting on his rent controlled apartment. ALl he needed was another tenant who was upset about it and complained to him. See? In most cases I think it's pretty easy peasy for landlords to find out about tenants doing illegal subletting.
