Hello everyone. Only been renting our short term rental here in Florence, Italy for 2 months more or less and it's been such a good experience so far. It keeps me on my toes moving moving moving. I have 2 little one at home so I never get a break although I love to end my nights recently reading all the stories in groups it was so helpful but also made me feel like I was part of a team and just not on my own. I am so great full to have found this forum and be a part of it. That you to those who took the time out of your life to create this new forum and keep the support going! Looking forward to reading all your stories and getting help or comments on some of mine.

WElcome, Katherine, I'm so glad to see you made your way here. Yes, I think your experience was shared by many on the old groups. They were doubtless a source of much support even for those who didn't actually actively participate much but just mostly read the posts.
I know what you mean about being kept on your toes!! Lots of tasks and chores to attend to...I feel obligated to keep things in much better condition for guests than I ever felt with standard roommates.

May I ask where in Latin America are you planning to relocate? Do you have to learn another language for your relocation? It must be exciting! Good Luck!

Hi Maria, Nice to meet you here ! I'm hosting in France, mostly in Paris now, but a bit in the South still. The team feeling makes it much more funny and lets us cope with difficult guests. It's a great ressource for everyone to have each other! Happy hosting

Hi Maria! Yes, it is very exciting. I'm relocating to Latin America. I've lived in Spain and Mexico before, so no new language to learn this time. I'm starting in Columbia (Santa Marta, near Cartagena) and from there will explore Panama and Nicaragua. It's impossible to know exactly how it will be until I get there on the ground. The dollar is extra strong right now and Zika has brought down tourism prices, so it is a good time to go and explore if not necessarily the most lucrative time to be a host there. But, it is a lifestyle change and adventure thst I'm really looking forward to. My other job is giving ESL retreats for Business English training for women, so I want to be closer to my clients. Chicago is a bit expensive for them since the dollar is so strong.
Are you in Latin America?

Shaun, that seems like a HUGE change for you!! Quite enormous. I am a person so heavily planted in the region where I live (a lot of very powerful emotional connections to the land in the Bay Area and California) that I just can't imagine even moving to another state, let alone departing the country for another nation. My feet are really in this land. Also, maybe I was mistaken, but I had thought you owned the house in Chicago where you live -- in which case there is all the enormity of selling a house as well. But maybe you don't own it so it is not nearly as hard to relocate?

Hi Deborah, it's funny. I've always wondered what it would be like to be planted in the ground! Actually to "belong somewhere". I'm really a nomad, happiest when things look new around me. I don't dare buy a house! Well, now that there is such a short term rental market I might consider it. No, I rent a huge house from my landlord/next door neighbor. He and I have been working out this host/landlord symbiosis for over three years. In fact, I believe he will be taking over and becoming a host here when I leave if the Chicago legislation isn't too onerous.

I would not like to go to a new country alone, but I did it with my husband at 37, after a very short time between idea and moving van. Language learnt in school, 20 years before. Or better, I'd not like to start a new company in a new country again. After winning the 50 Millions of Deborah's dream, I could imagine living for months in new destinations, extending the nomadic lifestyle to more countries.
Shaun, do you have existing clients who will follow you for retreats in the new destination? It's exiting if you know you have the survival covered for a while, but very stressful, if you have to adapt everything at once, housing, friends, language, money.
I never felt at home in any country including my own, or in any town, including the village I was born in, till I came to France and Paris. (Not Sète) Some people are born in the wrong country - I hope you find your country, like I found mine.

Helga, thank you so much. I understand about being born in the wrong country! When I moved to Spain in the 2000's I did find my home and lived there for seven years. It still feels like home! But,may you mention, my clients. Most of them are already in Latin America, many in Mexico City where I used to work. But I am trying a new format of having everyone meet in a more relaxed vacation type of spot. I think people will learn more and retain more if they are in a relaxing environment. It will be a lot of work, but I want to be in a more relaxing environment too, so it will be worth it.

Shaun I think you are a brave person! I picked up and moved to Italy from California. Only friend I had was the man I eventually married. Other than that I started all over from from zero. No job no friends and no voice. It was the best decision of my life! Keep us all updated! In bocca al lupo. As they say here in Italy!
