Best degreaser??

Apparently some guests got a foot massage. With lots oil. And then left the oil all over the main rug in the shape of foot prints. I frantically scrubbed it with water before the next guests arrived (then was HORRIFIED to see the foot prints were still there for their stay after it had dried -OMG!) I've poured baking soda on it and now I'm wondering, which is a better fabric degreaser to scrub it with - laundry detergent or dish detergent? Has anyone dealt with this situation? Thanks!

Other than not reading the house rules and oil prints on rug, they were really nice guests. I'm conflicted how to review guests like this. I'm mostly inclined to ignore/gloss over honest mistakes with an ok/polite review, but not leave a glowing review like I do for perfect guests... too bad the stars don't work on guests!

Just pour a liquid detergent on the affected areas and soak it on a luke warm water for an hour and when you laundry pour another small amount ( depends) on the affected areas and regular cycle and it should work.

Have you tried using white vinegar on the stain? What is the rug made of?

The baking soda then scrubbing it with dish detergent & hot water then spraying it down with the hose worked! Added new house rule: "No massage oils"!
