Hi all I want to share some of my vacation to Southern California and especially Death Valley. Here is a video I made, showing a very colorful caterpillar (which I found over 100 of!!) crawling about happily in the generally very barren desert of Death Valley. Interestingly, someone else also created another YouTube video of the same exact caterpillar in Death Valley as well, almost on the exact same day I did mine. Mine was created March 23, he posted his March 24th. He identifies this caterpillar as that of the White-Lined Sphinx Moth, which I am happy to find out about, --- I had been very curious what it was. HEre is a page that identifies it: www.pbase.com/image/129220581Here's the adult White LIned Sphinx MOth:(also called a Hummingbird MOth because it hovers like a hummingbird, which you can see in this photo) ANd here is some information about them: www.desertusa.com/insects/sphinx-moths.html

And here's another video to share: I took this video off the Kelbaker Road in the Mojave Desert on March 22nd. THis shows a Mojave Desert Tortoise, which I actually saw crossing the road, as did another person who had stopped for it. As we both watched, the tortoise gradually walked off the road and under a creosote bush, where I made a video of it. This was the first time I'd ever seen this desert tortoise. I felt blessed by the opportunity to come across it!
