I have always thought that guests could book more than one listing at the same time. NOt that the need to do so would often arise, but take for instance this situation, where it would. A host has a 4 bedroom home, and host lives in one room and rents the other 3 rooms separately as separate listings. He has a couple book one of the bedrooms. Then the same couple decides to have a 2nd couple join them on their reservation, and so the same couple book a 2nd bedroom at this same hosts' home.
HEre's a post where a host stated that a guest told him she'd booked two listings for the same dates:

Hello,
Yesterday I received the mail Airbnb , it wrote :
..."Update from Airbnb: (guest) no longer needs accommodations for these dates.
Just a heads up that (guest) made other arrangements for (date) 2016. No need to respond, but you can if you like"...
I asked my guest if she does not need to rent my apartment. She answe that she has booked two apartments in the same period, for her and her friends.
I would like to ask : Is the customer can made two reservations in the same time? In this case, is there the problems of payment by Airbnb when I rent my appatement after this email?
Thank you in advance for your answers

I am not completely sure that I understand your question, but I will try to respond.
First, as far as I am aware, yes, any guest can book more than one reservation at one time. And as you heard here, the guest stated that she booked more than one apartment. How she did this without violating the Airbnb prohibition on third party renting, is not clear, but she did it, which just goes to prove the point I was trying to make earlier in another post -- that Airbnb does not prohibit or prevent guests booking more than one listing at the same time.
Second -- I dont' quite understand what your concern/confusion is as regards payment. Are you concerned that you won't get paid if you rent your apartment to a guest -- another guest, other than the first guest you are mentioning? Why do you think you would not get paid?
For any reservation that any guest books, Airbnb collects payment immediately from the guest. If they have a problem getting the payment from the guest, instead of getting confirmation that the reservation is "accepted" you will get a message stating, "awaiting payment". This will not change to 'accepted" until the payment goes thru. You will get paid for any reservation that Airbnb collects the money for.
