Miami Beach is on a roll...fining people for renting out their property.... www.miaminewtimes.com/news/miami-beach-has-fined-airbnb-style-landlords-16-million-since-march-8712957See the list of hosts and fines: images.miaminewtimes.com/media/pdf/short-term_rentals-2.pdfAlmost all the fines are exactly the same...most everyone is being fined $20,000 (apparently the minimum fine) and several are being fined $40k, $60k or even $80k. The highest fine levied, that of $80,000, is actually not for a violation of any short term rental law, but solely for advertising. Airbnb itself has been fined $120,000 for several ads. Booking.com was fined $20,000. WoW, I just read the article and the city of Miami Beach has the most severe, restrictive STR regulations I have ever heard of. It's not legal to rent a place for less than 6 months and 1 day. Rent it 1 day less than 6 months and 1 day and you automatically get a $20,000 fine! That is so unreasonable and bizarre .... people should be protesting this in large numbers. I guess in Miami Beach they never have students staying for just one semester or completing a 3 week course of study, because they would never be able to find a place to stay.
