Here's one of the original scams that was being perpetrated via the host community groups -- scammers would create an Airbnb profile, then join all the community groups that they could, and then start posting repetetive messages on threads asking people to contact them privately. By doing so, hosts were exposing their email address to these scammers, who would generally wait a while, and then send the same host an email that was a fake Airbnb email. As if coming from Airbnb . This would take the host to a phishing site, designed to look like an airbnb site, where when host logged in, the criminal would capture their log in info. Moral of the story: hosts need to be careful to whom they reply via the host community groups. See the scammer "Sebastien" on this thread --- who posted this very same message on many threads in many host communities.
