So I have an idea for something that could be either a method of Search Engine Optimization for hosts (to SEO their listings), a place to get training/education on SEO, as well as to teach/educate hosts on how to create their own website for their property rentals, and/or a new "micro" version of a peer-to-peer Short Term/Long Term Rental Listing Platform, and wanted to get your feedback/input.
I am exploring some different ways to set this up. The idea is basically to create a new website, which would offer anyone doing any kind of property rentals (Short term, long term, event rentals -- possibly even rentals for use for storage space) to list or advertise their space. This MIGHT help with search ranking in that it can offer yet another way for hosts to get online exposure for their listings. As well, hosts could opt to post one or more listings all in the same place -- eg they could post links to their Airbnb listing together with a VRBO listing, a Craigslist listing, a HomeAway listing, and/or their own website, etc. Or they could only do one such listing -- eg only their HomeAway listing, if they want to direct more people to that. THe website could potentially be used as a new "listing platform" that guests could browse, although I think that is a major project to take on and I'm not really that ambitious -- I don't know how effective it would be (eg who would know about it), but it seems to me that simply having it as a sort of "collective" website for hosts' listings could be of value.
The other aspect of this website would be to teach/train/offer suggestions to hosts on doing search engine optimization and/or marketing for their own listings/offerings, (such as by teaching hosts how to create their own website) with the goal that hosts could eventually move to work more independently of any existing listing platform, if they desire that. I would personally like to be able to be more independent of any particular listing site, and I have to say that many of the more controlling apsects of Airbnb give impetus to that desire. I don't know how feasible that is but this is all an experiment to that end.
Since one of my primary values is this type of FREEDOM, I have bought several domain names that reflect this --
freedombnb.com, freetobnb.com, and livefreebnb.com. What do you think of those? WHich do you like best? Any others that you can think of that you like?
One of my concerns is that if I am actually creating a Listing Platform, even of only a minor sort, that I might be taking on a level of legal liability that I'm not prepared to take on. I need some advice on that point.
I had two ideas about how to do this on a low-budget way...preferably with a FREE website, since as I said I love FREE. One is to use another forum for the purpose, and have hosts post ads for their listings as they would post a thread on a forum. It's not perfect but it can work. I already set up another forum to try this out --- see here -- www.freedombnb.freeforums.net
A second idea is to use a free website that is oriented to "data" and "classified ads" like www.caspio.com, to set this up. Caspio does offer a free plan, though most of their plans are not free. The basic free plan could work. It basically allows you to set up a classified ad type website which could be adapted to this purpose. However I'm not clear if such a website would also allow informational articles to be posted (as we can do on a forum) or if one could have a "chat" or forum function there, which I think would be useful to have.
Anyway -- what do you folks think and would you be interested in something like this?
