Guest arriving at 7 am!
I have two French gentlemen arriving tomorrow for four nights. Just heard from them that they will be arriving at 7:00 AM instead of my check in time of 4:00 PM. Luckily the current guest just left today so I'm not making an issue of it, but what chutzpah.

I would not let them check in at 7 AM. They can either busy themselves until 4 or pay for the previous evening. That's what they would have to do if they were staying at a hotel.

You can send them a special offer including the previous evening if they really want to check in at 7 AM.

What Queenie said. they come at FOUR or pay extra.
Serafina (Serafina)
I'd vary a bit from my posted check-in, but 7 am is excessive. I'd charge for that.
Margaret
Thanks so much for the input - now I'm rethinking.

Check ins and check outs...seems to be a popular theme!

Indeed! They are only my fifth booking so I'm letting it slide - this time.

In addition to the money, a bit point is requiring the guests to abide by your rules instead of their own. Guests who take it upon themselves to arrive before your check-OUT time are a big red flag. If you decide to let their early arrival go unnoticed, you should be prepared for additional demands while they're there. And you should expect that your flexibility may easily be unappreciated since it was not a big deal to you.

I haven't experienced this. At the moment I have a great couple from Brazil. They took a red eye, dropped off their bags at 9am, left and came back around "check-in." They have been great and appreciated my willingness to accommodate their arrival. Sometimes you don't have an afternoon flight to the country you're going.
Evelyn
I don't charge for early check in, if the space is available. If I have other guests I allow them to drop off their bags, take a set of keys and off they go.

I think 7am is too early. I say im not available until at least after 9am and it's already light here by 4.30am at the moment.
Jeannette
Red eye guests are such a PAIN. They are half-dead of exhaustion but at the same time, want a free half-day to be underfoot, and not, in general, appreciative.
Margaret
Yes, I hear all of you and will discuss it with them when they arrive. If it ever happens again, I will say sorry, no can do.

I try to be flexible when possible, to help my guests without allowing myself to be walked over. I have allowed check in at Noon on rare occasions instead of my usual 3PM time. I do it on a case by case basis and it's always discussed and agreed on ahead of time. 7AM is out of line!

I had guests who arrived at 7am yesterday - Sunday. A pair of writers from new York. It was no big deal. I'm always up at that time of day and I never have same day check outs/ins. They had a shower and we all had breakfast at 8.30.
