Are there any groups for mainland Europe yet? I'd love to handle a Benelux group or Benelux/Germany or Benelux/France.

If you want it, Jessa, you've got it! Yes, we do need a mainland Europe group. We have an Italian group that is just starting, but nothing else. So, I will set up a group for Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg) and Germany, and you can moderate it Jessa, and then if you can let folks know about it and invite them over that would be great. You might contact Till and Jutta, whom you can find at Till ,(who run one of largest German speaking current AIrbnb groups -- this one -- www.airbnb.com/groups/content/content-137702 ) and ask them if they are interested in working with you here on a Benelux/Germany group. THeir interest was in a German language speaking group, but I don't know if that would appeal as much to Benelux hosts as to German hosts. globalhosting.freeforums.net/board/66/belgium-netherlands-luxembourg-germany-regionalIt helps when new boards are set up on this forum, to have some activity in them. Boards with no activity wont' invite interest --- they may appear to be ghost towns. I am intentionally not setting up boards for every region of the world in order to avoid having a whole lot of empty groups that no one is participating in. You can go ahead and post to that group. THere is one thread already there which is an announcement thread that gets automatically posted across all groups when I make an announcment to groups.

Hi jessa, which language do you prefer for the new group? We are still thinking, if we open a German-speaking for Germany-Austria-Switzerland, which would comprise of course all German-speaking regions such the ones in Benelux and in Südtirol.

Till -- would you also be interested in participating in a Benelux/Germany/France group which Jessa and you could moderate? Or do you think a separate group for German speakers would be your preference? I don't know if you were interested in moderating a group on this forum, but just let me know what you might be interested in. And you dont' have to decide now, either -- - you could wait until later, once you and your community decide what to do based on what will be happening with the new Airbnb groups.

We just talked to Airbnb today, and are waiting for a response. We must make a decision soon, wether we move to the new Airbnb Community platform, or we open a section here. We need mor info from Airbnb how they will deal with the languages. If we open a section here, it would be a German-based, for all European regions with German language. That's Germany, Austria, part of Switzerland, part of Italy (south tyrol), part of Benelux (did I forget one?). It would not comprise France, as they speak French, which is not compatible to German.

Till - if you want to open a German language group here, that would be great, you could have it set up for the nations you mention, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, part of Italy, part of Benelux. And I could designate you as the moderator for that group. Then the Benelux group could be a Benelux/France group for the whole of Benelux plus France, unless later on, some French speakers seek to set up a separate French group -- which could potentially include also the Canadian French. Let me know the outcome of your discussions with Airbnb.

I got a good message from Airbnb yesterday: They told me that the German platform will have the same structure as the English one. Depends of the Domain ending, what you see. .com leads you to the English section, .de to the German one. Means, German is not just a local sub-part of the new community, but a complete “parallel world”. We will see how this will work. And when. And how to change from German to English, as many of us live in both worlds. We will give Airbnb a chance. Until now it will not be necessary for us to build a DACH structure at globalhosts (which reduces my workload also). The Airbnb community structure is similar to the DACH structure.

THanks for letting us know, Till. We will still be here so that anything you or other German hosts want to post here, you can do that. BUt it sounds like your decision will allow you to focus on importing your existing content to the new Airbnb groups, and so you don't have to do that twice.

I'm fluent in German, but I'm not sure it is a language that makes much sense for Benelux as it's not spoken by the Dutch, by only 40 000 Belgians and the majority of Luxembourg people speak it as their 2nd/3rd language. English surely works for anyone in following countries: Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Baltics, Denmark, Benelux, UK, Ireland, possibly even Central Europe(?) I can see why it wouldn't work in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, France. A German language group may work but do most hosts in German speaking regions not master English pretty well?
