There are two names associated with your account, your user name, and your display name. When you first register on this site, you are setting up a user name, and that cannot be changed for the account. So let's say you set your user name as "liz." You can later on change your display name, which is the name others see on the forum. HOwever, I actually suggest that you keep user name and display name the same to avoid confusion, and here is more explanation on that.
When you log into the site, always use your USER NAME to log in. So, in the example given, user name "liz" might later change her display name to "Elizabeth", but that is not her user name, so she will not log in as "Elizabeth" but rather as "liz." THen others on the site though see her as "Elizabeth."
IN addition to causing confusion in the log in process, having a different user name than a display name can create confusion also in the use of the "tagging" feature on this forum, where a member "tags" you in a post by using @ with your user name. When they say for instance liz, this will create a link in their post that takes a reader right to ELizabeths' proflle. They cannot tag you by your display name, eg elizabeth wont' create a link to that account.
So what happens is that if a forum member changes their display name, now they can't be tagged very easily, because the other forum member won't know your user name, since all they see is your display name.
If you prefer to start all over and set up a new account using a different user name, you can definitely do that, but you would need to use a different email address because I think an email can only be used by one account at a time. IF you want, I can completely delete your original account, which would allow you to use the same email address when you open a new account.
