Leave a review for Pete's sake!
I had a guest who kept
my keys and left her stuff for eight hours after checkout without permission
and then broke into my house to get her suitcase and leave the keys before her
flight overseas. I took Andrew's advice and went through the Resolution
Center for Overstay and am claiming another night. CC had advised and was spot
on that it would end up in the guests eyes it's all my fault she had to keep my
keys. I accepted this woman's reservation request based mostly on her
two very positive reviews and note that in her latest message to me she
mentioned she has stayed "a lot" in Airbnbs. So, perhaps she is lying
(which is possible, she's lied about a couple of other things) but what's far
more likely is that most of her hosts didn't leave her a review. And given her
entitled attitude it's likely not all of those would have been positive.
C'mon folks, please
leave a review of every guest. Not in "code" that most people don't
speak. Not glowingly positive if it was a bad guest. Not mean nor rude nor
judgemental. Just honest and factual. When you don’t, you are reinforcing to
bad guests they can behave badly and undermining good guests and future hosts.
Please let’s be the Community we want to see. Thanks! End of rant.

This can't be repeated enough. Let us know how you get on regarding the extra night Fiona as this is quite a new addition to their policy and it will be interesting to see if it works.

Right you are, Fiona!
Andrew
Agree 100%. Who knows how many nightmare situations could have been prevented by other hosts getting over their squeamishness about leaving negative reviews!
Also looking forward to hearing whether Airbnb grants the request for compensation for the overstay.
Clare
Just put yourself in the next host's shoes. Would you accept a reservation from this woman again? Why not? This is the stuff that needs to be in the review.
Fiona
One improvement I'd like to suggest to Airbnb through anyone who has their ear is that there be a counter of how many stays any guest has had. If someone sends me a request without reviews and I see they've been a member since 2010 I ask them about prior stays and then evaluate but if they have reviews it's harder to tell if that's all. If you could see a potential guest has had ten stays but only two reviews it's a prompt to ask some more questions. But still doesn't replace just leaving an honest review every time for Pete's sake!
